I'm looking for info on the DUKES family - I know that John Anderson DUKES(Born 21 Nov 1861 - Died 8 Mar 1938) was married(in 1882) to Auretta Roberta WILDE(Born 20 Dec 1865 - Died 10 May 1920) and had 7 children, I think, and lived in Put in Bay. I don't know if any other DUKES lived there or not. Children of John Anderson DUKES- 1) Lucy May DUKES (Born 15 Nov 1883 - Died 14 Aug 1904) - she married Israel GIRARDIN/GARDINER in Jul 1899. 2) Mabel Ellen DUKES (Born 9 Jan 1886 - Died 9 Feb 1956) - she married Elmondorf P. "Elmon" DEBOIS in Jun 1912. 3) Frank Anderson DUKES (Born 28 Sep 1889 - Died 29 Nov 1945) - He married Grace Mae ROUSH in Dec 1911. 4) Roy Earl DUKES (Born 21 Feb 1892 - Died 26 Oct 1950) - He Married Christie F. In the Norwalk newspaper dated 02 Jul 1850 there is a notice from an attorney that Sarah (HOLMES) WELLS is seeking a divorce from her husband, James F WELLS, for abuse and desertion as she has not seen him for 3 years. I did not find any follow-up data and my request to the Court House for the records wants the exact date of the divorce, which I do not have. I am pretty sure that James F WELLS is my James Fones WELLS and would like a copy of the court records for this marriage and subsequent divorce. Is there someone in Norwalk who might find and copy these documents for me ... or at the very least get a date the divorce was awarded so I can write for the records??

How early do the Birth Records in Huron County go back? I am looking for confirmation of a birth of a Eugene W BARKER in 1853 in Huron.

I found the index to persons buried in the cemeteries in Huron County at the Huron County Genealogical Society's web site, and I would like some assistance in looking up these individuals in the cemetery inscription book. I found the following entries in the indexes on your web site- SCISINGER, Barbara, 334; Isaac, 334. SISINGER, Cherryl Lynn, 377; Edward, 356; Eunice E., 377; Frederick W., 395; John, 356; Maria, 356; Myrtle, 356; Wade L., 377. SISSINGER, F.W., 395; Hannah E., 395. I believe this means they should be in the New Haven Township pages of the book.

I am looking for information on TRUXELLs in Huron County. I note that in the 1820 census William TRUXELL has a female under 10 in his household. This does not seem to match the list of his children from other materials. I have an ancestor, Mary Ann TRUX (by a marriage record in Huron Co.), or TRUXELL (by her witness to the marriage of one of her children), or it could be TROXELL or another spelling variant. Mary Ann TRUXELL was born in 1814. She married Silas BOWER(s)/BAUER(s) who lived in Greenfield Township in Huron Co. Silas BOWERs father died in 1818 and his mother, Marvel, married Jethiel ANDREWS. The land of Andrews is near that of William TRUXELL according to the 1845 plat. The oldest son of Mary Ann and Silas was William and he was born in Greenfield Township, Huron Co. according to his family bible as recorded by his descendents. I realize there is a marriage record for William TRUXELL in 1818. Is there any earlier record of a child who could be my Mary Ann? In the 1885 Nebraska census Mary Ann records her Father's birth as PA and her mother's birth as IN, which may mean Indiana or Indian, since the children of Mary Ann BOWERS all considered themselves part Native American. Since Mary Ann's mother was old enough to have a child in 1814, Indiana may not have existed as a named territory when the mother was born.

Alice Duncan Look Up Results - Have you seen "History of the Firelands, Comprising Huron and Erie Counties Ohio" by W.W. Williams, Page 222? It has 1827 enumeration, with Wm. TRUXEL and Jacob TRUXEL, also Jehiel ANDREWS. Page 219 has an interesting account of Silas BOWERs untimely end.

Does anyone have any information on how the Adam ROSSMAN(Elizabeth) family might be related to the HIPPs from Peru, Huron County, Ohio. My ggg grandfather, Andrew HIPP and Regina SWABLY settled in this area. Adam ROSSMAN's son was Jacob. Could there be a BARMAN(BAERMANN) - ROSSMAN connection that anyone is aware of?

Gloria Ishida Look Up Results -Depending on the era, Louise BARMAN (husband George), who died in 1926, was a HIPP. In 1900, there were only sons listed; did one of them marry a ROSSMAN. Also, according to the census image, there were several more BARMAN families who seem to be immediate neighbors. Jacob ROSSMAN (b. 1864) in the 1900 census has but one son and five daughters. But more sons in 1910. In this census, the George BARMAN family is a very near neighbor. Given the many children involved, there may well be a relationship of the three families you mentioned. It may take some digging, but you might try death certificates 1908-1953, free access on http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch You might also check church records. If the families were Catholic, you can browse the records of St. Alphonsus (Peru Township) or St. Mary's (Norwalk). These are also available on the above mentioned "labs" site.

Michelle Meyer Posner Look Up Results - I am a descendant of George BARMAN and Louise HIPP. I have two ROSSMAN girls listed in my tree. One is Theresia ROSSMAN who married Edward BARMAN, son of Philip BARMAN and Mary Ann GOETZ (GATES). They had a son, Edward, whose death certificate is my only source of this union. Philip BARMAN was the brother of George BARMAN. I also have a Katie ROSSMAN who married William SCHAFER, son of George SCHAFFER and Angeline DEHE. I found this information in Ohio Marriages 1803 - 1900, which, I believe is on the Huron County site. My email address is [email protected]. If you email me, I will send a an electronic copy of the death certificate.

There was mention of the German school, first being in the home of Mr. John WARREN. His earliest census listing, of course, does not show the address and he and his wife later moved in with a married daughter who seems to be widowed (1880). He was English and a blacksmith. The 1870 census is Huron County with Monroeville as the post office. Any idea where his house was? Then the German school was housed in the "old stone school" on West Main. I wonder what is there now and when it was torn down (I am assuming it was; can't remember particularly all the times I went to Bellevue). Any photos or a map, I wonder.

This came out of nowhere. I had almost dropped off the OHHURON list because John WARREN was my only link to the area, (his sons moved off to Michigan), and I never thought I'd see the name. Do you have any information on John WARREN at all? I'm surprised there was a German school in his house though, as he was English... in a line of blacksmith's hailing from Devonshire, England. Anyway, I'll dig out my old records if there is anything you might find helpful. If you could enlighten me as to anything you know about him, please let me know!

Marjean Workman Look Up Results - This is probably a long shot, but I am curious about this John WARREN and the German school. We have a Mary WARREN (spelled WARNT in her marriage record) who was married in Monroeville, Huron County, on 4 Feb 1867 to John HUTHER/HEATER/HEETER/HEITER, son of Joannes Jacobus HUTHER and Elisabetha ORPHEY. Mary was born about 1843, with her place of birth given as either Germany or England. We have not yet been able to determine her parents, and it was always curious that England was listed as a place of birth. Mary died 1870-1874, probably in Huron or Erie County. She and John had three children: Jacob Nicholas, Mary Elizabeth and John. John moved to Missouri after the 1880 census.

Leo Mills Look Up Results - Mary Elizabeth HEETER was my grandmother. My uncle, who will be 95 in February, has always told me that John WARREN came from England with his family and first came to Virginia before moving to Ohio, although I can't verify this. The 1850 Huron County census for Lyme Township shows a John WARREN and family. I would be very interested in seeing what Chad WARREN has in his records. I have never been able to track for sure these WARRENs listed in the 1850 census, although I feel certain that the Mary listed is my grandmother's mother. While this 1850 census shows Mary as being born in Ohio, her children in their census records say she was born in England.

Chad Warren Look Up Results - There were multiple John WARREN's in the Bellevue Area. The John WARREN and family that shows up in the 1850 Census with wife, Eleanor and children, Thomas, John, Mary and James, is not the same John WARREN that is in my line and who also lived in Bellevue. My g-g-g-grand-father, John WARREN emigrated somewhere between 1853-1854, with his second wife, Amelia (his first wife Elizabeth died in England in 1852), and at least two of his sons, Thomas and Frederick. John and Amelia are buried together in the Bellevue Cemetery, and I have copies of their obits from the Bellevue newspapers. Amelia died in Kalamazoo, MI but her remains were taken back to Bellevue to be put to rest next to her only child. John WARREN died in Charlotte, MI and his remains were also taken back to Bellevue to be buried next to his wife Amelia, and some of his children. His entire family with first wife, Elizabeth, can be found in the 1851 British Census. John and Amelia can be found living alone in the 1860 & 1870 U.S. Census records. One of John's daughters from his first marriage, Ann Turner WARREN, was married in England to Thomas THORNE, then after he passed away, she was married to Edward SPRATT. They emigrated in 1870 and she was once again widowed in 1880. At this time, her parents, John and Amelia took up residence with her. Thus, they appear in the 1880 U.S. Census all living together. Ann would shortly afterwards move up to Charlotte, MI where her brother was living and marry yet again to a Lyman C. HOLBROOK. John's two sons Thomas and Frederick after serving in the Civil War, moved up to Flint, MI, where Thomas stayed. Frederick moved on to Charlotte, MI. The two sons joined the Civil War in 1861, but do not appear living with their parents in the 1860 census. I found Frederick listed with another family, likely as an apprentice painter, but am not sure where Thomas was living at the time. There was one other sister that also ended up in Michigan. Her married name was Mary Jane BALE, and she lived and died in Lakeview, MI with her husband Henry BALE. She was the oldest sibling, so my guess is that she was married in England as well, and emigrated independently from her father, similar to Ann. There are also 2 older brothers from the 1851 British Census, John and William. There is a worn tombstone near John and Amelia's in the Bellevue Cemetery for William who died at age 18. But I cannot account for the oldest brother John. Perhaps he died of illness, or never emigrated to the United States. They were never mentioned in any of the obits. Hope this info is useful, but it sounds like you are likely looking for the other John WARREN & family.

I posted earlier about my Aunt, Lillian (Lilian) COTTLE BROWN who I am searching. In addition to knowing that she lived on a farm in or near Norwalk in 1952 -- and later, I now have discovered that she died in September, 1972 with a last zip code of 44851, or New London, Ohio. Anyone know how I can check local obits for anything on her?
