Searching for any information on Anton LAIS. He was born in Grissheim Germany March 16, 1825 and died in Norwalk, Huron County, Ohio October 14, 1886. He married Katrina THOMAS who was born January 10, 1827 and died May 10, 1894 in Norwalk, Huron County, Ohio. He owned and operated the LAIS Brewery-distillery in Norwalk for about 16 years. I do have information stating that there is a Norbert LAIS who is the current mayor of Grissheim.

Andrew Waber Look Up Results -The Mormon website www.familysearch has the recent birth records from the Catholic church in Grissheim online. By recent I'm talking about post-1800. Go to "search" then "International Genealogical Index". Make sure you enter Germany as a region and then enter any of the following batch codes- M944393(marriages); J944392(births); K944392. For pre-1800, the church family books for Grissheim are online at http://www.online-ofb.de/grissheim/. Doing a lookup, I find no Anton LAIS born in Grissheim, but did find several LAIS children born to an Anton LAIS and Gertrud ZIMMERMAN right around the time Anton was born.

I am looking for information of the location of the grave of Robert TROUP in Edward's Grove Cemetery. Saturday my husband and I went up and down the rows of tombstones at the Edward's Grove Cemetery at Ripley church, but was unable to find the stone. Robert TROUP died 23 Dec 1935 and according to his obituary, was buried in the Edward's Grove Cemetery. I did not realize the cemetery was so large! Either he has no stone, or we missed the grave. I did find the grave of a William TROUP behind the church and not too far back, but saw no Robert TROUP stone nearby. Can anyone help me with grave location?

My great(3)-grandparents Abraham VAN SCOY (1788-1849) and his wife Mary Polly KNAPP (1795-1883) were married in New York (probably North Salem, Westchester County) in 1811. They moved to Geauga County, Ohio, and then to Erie County, Pennsylvania (1830 census), and finally to Greenwich Township, Huron County, Ohio (1838 school census). Mary KNAPP was the daughter of Brundage KNAPP (1773-1866) and his first wife Lidda/Lydia BISHOP. Mary (KNAPP) VAN SCOY's brother Bishop KNAPP also lived in Huron County. He and his wife Pamela BAKER are buried in the East Norwalk Cemetery. Brundage KNAPP was married *five* times. His second wife was Sally TYLER. They had a daughter Sally who married a MUNSON. The 1907 VAN SCOY - KNAPP reunion membership list has these entries for people I believe are descendants of Brundage and Sally (TYLER) KNAPP: Martha, Munson, Elreno, Conadian Po No 101 South hoff st Oklahoma, Calarodo Mrs Hillie Mayhew Denver Col 709-27st Mr Frank S Munson Fort Cobb R D No 1 Box 69 Oklahoma Brundage KNAPP's third wife was Esther MEAD (1784-about 1828). They had several children, including Orpha, Adolphus, and Edward who lived in Huron County. Brundage KNAPP's fourth wife was Elizabeth MEAD, Esther's sister. He married his fifth wife, Betsey HAINES, in 1841 in Huron County. The life and marriages of Brundage KNAPP are not well-documented. Also, I have *not* been able to connect the majority of KNAPPs in 19th century Huron County census records to Brundage KNAPP. The VAN SCOY-KNAPP reunion began in 1907. It is a reunion of the descendants of Brundage KNAPP (and therefore includes the descendants of Abraham VAN SCOY and Mary KNAPP) and of two brothers, Cornelius and James VAN SCOY, first cousins of Abraham from Yates County, New York.

Myron Eugene VAN SCOY was my uncle (my father's brother). He was my biology teacher at South Central High School. I have found a connection to the PETTIT family in New Jersey. My great(2)-grandparents were George Washington VAN SCOY (1822-1903) and Judith Ann STRIMPLE (1830-1902). Their parents were Abraham VAN SCOY (1788-1849) and Mary KNAPP (1795-1883) and Aaron STRIMPLE (1803-1890) and Keziah STOUT (1804-1886). All three couples are buried in the Nineveh Cemetery that I mentioned in my recent post about Methodists in Greenwich. Aaron STRIMPLE was the son of John STRIMPLE ( -1816) and Elizabeth PETTIT (abt 1773-1856). They were married in 1795 in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Elizabeth STRIMPLE, age 77, was living in Kingwood, Hunterdon County, New Jersey, at the 1850 census. John STRIMPLE is recognized as a Patriot by the DAR.

If anyone can help, I am looking for a more detailed obituary for Jane (aka Jennie and "Gyp" ) SAWYER HORR who died October 8, 1884. She was the young wife of Rollin Cortland HORR, related to the HORR family in Wellington. Local wedding notation for Rollin and her would be great, too. They married in Huron County at the home of the bride's uncle, James SAWYER. Also when did "Floy" CHAPMAN (born abt 1853) die? He was in the 1880 census for Huntington, with wife Julia and two sons, Burke and Clarence. Floy is listed as a stock dealer. I assume he died between 1881 and 1899. Julia later married George D. BAILEY and it seems the whole family moved to Los Angeles. Julia and George (much younger) may have divorced. Gyp HORR and Julia CHAPMAN were SAWYER sisters (father, Stephen, Jr. and mother, Jane Ritchey TICE. I would be most grateful for the information.

I do have the brief announcement of "Gyp's" death that was in the Reflector the same day she died. I am looking for more information on the William and Loretta DAY family. I have death certificates for both; the informants on the certificates were their son and daughter. William E. DAY's (B-5 Mar 1865 and D-15 Nov 1945) parents are listed as Minor DAY and Elizabeth STOTTH. He and his parents are all listed as born in Huron County, Ohio. Loretta Belle LEWIS' (B-27 July 1860 and D- 22 Apr 1938) parents are listed as James and Mary LEWIS who were born in Vermont. Loretta is listed as being born in Ripley Twp, Huron County. William E. DAY is also listed as a life-long resident of Willard. William and Loretta are buried in the New Greenwood Cemetery, New Haven Township. I have looked through most of the books on Huron County in my local library's genealogy room (Ashland, OH) and have yet to find reference to any of these people other than the listing for William and Loretta in the Huron County Cemetery Inscriptions Book of 1997. Has anyone else come across any of these people in your Huron County research? Any new leads would be much appreciated.

Alice Duncan Look Up Results - You have Elizabeth STOTTH. Do you mean STOTTS? On page 320 History of The Firelands comprising Huron and Erie Counties, Ohio, 1879, by W. W. Williams is: "the decendents of Isaac and Jane STOTTS." which includes " Betsy(Mrs M. Day)". The long paragraph has many names and family details. Between page 322 and page 323 is a double page illustration of the A.D. STOTTS farm Ripley, Huron, Ohio.

Came across this marriage record in 'The Daily Sun', of Saint John, N.B. of July 30,1894. It doesn't say where they were married but because of the time passage, I'm thinking it was in Ohio. Can anyone confirm this? "On 10th inst., Geo. F. STONE, of Digby, N.S., was married to Miss COCHRANE of Austinburg, Ohio, d/o the late Rev. Robert COCHRAN, D.D. The groom is a leading merchant in Digby."

Gloria Ishida Look Up Results - The 1870 census shows Robert COCHRAN, Congregational church minister, born 1805 in New York. Daughters, Lucy 26, Julia, 21, Emma, 19 and two younger sons. The post office is Saybrook, Austinburg. The 1880 census shows Robert, age 75, is now a farmer and daughter "Emma", 29 is still at home! Going to familysearch/pilot one finds in the 1891 Canada census, George F. STONE in Digby, widowed, age 39, religion, Baptist. So he was 42 for this second marriage. If George married "Emma", she would have been 43, so she is a possibility over her sisters. Next I went to Marriage Records 1811 1900 at http://www.ashtabulagen.org/ Voila! end numbers are files: COCHRANE, Emily Lavina; STONE, George F. 1894 3 515 You can order copies, which may give more information.
