I am doing a genealogy search on my father's side of the family. The relatives I am looking for are my grandfather and two uncles. I saw on another part of this website that they are all buried in Huron County, Ohio. Would you be willing to do a lookup for me in the Huron County Cemetery Inscription book? The information I have is as follows-George W. MASON, 349; H. Hale MASON, 652; Jack W. MASON, 644; and Allen MASON, 287 I would be most grateful for any information on them.

I found in the 1900 census that my great garndfather George BOWLES and family were living in Ripley Twp. Can Someone direct me to a site with a list of names of cemeteries there and listings of who is buried in those if available?

I am trying to find information on my ZAHM ancestors and I know they were in Monroeville, Huron, Ohio. Can anyone tell me if marriage records are available anywhere for a marriage on October, 8 1855 in Monroeville? George SETZLER married Maria/Mary ZAHM on that date. Were marriages recorded in county records at that time? How would I go about getting a copy of the record? Are there death certificates/records for 1881 on file in Monroeville, or Huron cty, or OH? I know that Anna Maria ZAHM died in Monroeville on Nov 19, 1881. This was reported in the Sandusky Register on Nov 26, 1881. Does the Sandusky Register have an archive where I can obtain a copy of the obituary?

Are your SHERMANs connected to the SHERMAN, HUBBELL, or REED/READ surnames? My Joseph F. READ/REED came to Huron Co. OH in 1814 with wife Harriet HUBBELL READ and son Argalus REED, from VT. Harriet had a sister Laura HUBBELL who married Daniel SHERMAN. The family later moved to MI.

Ken Shute Look Up Results - In our Huron County, Ohio Marriages, 1815-1900, by Scheuer Publications I find: George SETZLER m. Mary ZAHN 8 Oct 1855. Book 1, Page 14. The forward to this publication states that copies can be obtained from the Huron County, Ohio Probate Court, 2 Main St., Norwalk, OH 44857. Also, there is a Mary SETZLER m. Joseph BRAKER 4 Jul 1859. Book 1, Page 209. The Ohio Online Death Certificate Index (www.ohiohistory.org/dindex) shows a George SETZLER d. in Huron County, Ohio 6/24/1921, Volume 3607, Certificate number 33835. I could find no good candidate for Mary/Maria SETZLER in this same Death Certificate Index. The web site gives information on how to obtain copies of these death certificates. The R.B. Hayes Obituary Index (index.rbhayes.org) lists a possible candidate for Mary SETZLER: Mary SETZLER, age 75, d. Bellevue 4/5/1913. I found no listing for Anna Marie ZAHN in the Hayes Obituary Index. Further, I found no SETZLERs in our Huron County, Ohio Death Index, 1908-1913, nor was there a George or Mary/Maria SETZLER in our Huron County, Ohio Death Index, 1867-1908, or in our Huron County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions. Finally, there is a SETZLER family in our 1870 Federal Census Index for Huron County, Ohio, with a George SETZLER as a son age 9. But this George SETZLER would have been born some years after the George SETZLER who married Mary ZAHN in 1855. All SETZLERs listed below are found on census page 528a for Monroeville Village. Read first name, age and birthplace- Agatha, 34, OH. Albert, 4, OH. Fannie, 14, OH. Geo. E. , 9, OH. Jacob, 39, Bavaria. Laura, 1, OH. Mary, 11, OH. May, 29, Switzerland.

There has been some correspondence recently on the list about the Huron Co. SHERMAN family. My Joseph Henry MILLS/MILL married Eva Louise SHERMAN 1851 in New Haven, Huron Co. and I have not been able to locate her parents. She was b. 1830, NY, I believe, and d 1866 in New Haven. Their children were Eva V. b. 1852 and George Dwight b. 1854. I found a Louise SHERMAN ag 20, b. NY in 1850 OH census living with Robert and Fidelia Giddings. I would love to hear more about Eva Louise SHERMAN if anyone knows her.

My cousin and I have spend months and years trying to find Jacob LUPER/LUPFER/LUPHER and wife Nancy MCMURTRY LUPER in Huron County, Ohio. This couple and their 7 youngsters were all born in PA. Arrived in Ohio in early 1830's Nancy died 11 Oct 1836, but where in Huron County? Jacob died 8 Oct either 1842 or 1852 he may have remarried as the 4 youngest children would have been under the age of 14, and the very youngest would have been only 4 when Nancy died. The majority of the kids made their way to Illinois and parts west, but where the heck are Jacob and Nancy buried? And where did they "park" themselves in Huron County? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Jacob is my great-great-great grandfather.

Ken Shute Lookup Results-- I've searched our Huron County, Ohio publications for your LUPER (etc.) family without success, except for the following possibility. In our Huron County, Ohio Marriages, 1815-1900, by Scheuer Publications, I found a marriage for a Jacob LUFER which might fit the bill for the postulated re-marriage of Jacob LUPER folllowing the death of his wife Nancy (MCMURTRY) LUPER on 11 Oct 1836. Specifically- Jacob LUFER m. Sally HASKINS 9 Mar 1837. Old book 1, Page 327. The publication indicates that copies can be ordered from the Huron Probate Court, 2 Main Street, Norwalk, OH 44857. In checking the internet I found a number of references to Jacob LUPER and Nancy MCMURTRY, which I'm fairly sure you already have. For example- 1.In Ancestry.com's Census records I find a Jacob LUPER in the 1820 Census living in Sadsbury, Crawford, PA, and a Jacob LUPFER in the 1830 Census living in Summerhill, Crawford, PA. 2. Family Search has a Family Group Record for a Jacob LUPER, b. 27 Oct 1792, Harmonsburg, Crawford, PA ; d. 8 Oct 1842,, OH. Parents are Johan Jacob LUPER and Mary Magdalene BERNHEISEL. 3.Family Search shows the marriage of Jacob LUPER to Nancy MCMURTRY 15 Apr 1813, Harmonsburg, Crawford, PA. 4. Family Search has a Family Group Record that lists the above information on Jacob and Nancy, and their death dates (8 Oct 1842 and 11 Oct 1836 respectively, with place of death cited just as OH for both). This record also lists their seven children, with their birth dates/locations and death dates/locations. 5. Google search reveals a family history for the LUPFER/LUPHER/LUPER families documented by a Janice A. Frank, copyrighted 2000-2002. I read a mention here about the BAUERS family and wondered if it was related to my Huron County ancestors. Silas BAUERS/BOWERS and his wife Marvell are recorded as settling in Huron Co. in 1816. Silas froze to death hunting in 1818, leaving two children, Silas and Clarissa. Clarissa married Rufus LOVE and Silas jr. married Mary Ann TRUX in Huron Co. on January 6 1833. There is a suggestion that Silas and Marvell were immigrants. The early spellings are BAUERS and later BOWERS. Some of the children used BOWER as the spelling. I also am at a roadblock on the parents of Mary Ann TRUX

Johannus Heinrich and Catherin Elizabeth (SCHWAN) SETZLER of Ungstein, Bavaria, Germany and Adams Township, Seneca County, Ohio were my 3rd great - grandparents. Their daughter, Mary Elizabeth, married Augustus GRABACH, my 2nd great - grandfather, in Adams Township on 26 Mar 1842. I have a lot of blank spaces about the children of Johannus Heinrich and Catherin Elizabeth. Hope one or both of you can fill me in. I know that one of them was John George, born in OH in 1834 - is this Debbie's John? This John George had a son, George, but he was born too late to be Jo's George (abt. 1863). If Johannus Heinrich and Catherin Elizabeth had a son, George, who I don't know about, he would have been about the right age to be Jo's George.

I saw that you are related to Cole family of Huron Co, OH. I wondered if you ever came across Elethear COLE who was the wife of Adolphus M. GREEN. According to family records, *Adolphus M. GREEN was born in New Ashford, Berkshire Co., Massachusetts on 29 OCT 1793 to parents of English descent. He first married about 11 OCT 1816 to Sally RODERICK. She died about 1820. Adolphus married Elethear COLE on 15 MAR 1821. She was born in Kingsbury, Washington Co., NY in 1800. (NOTE- There is a Samuel COLE died 15 DEC 1834 age 62 years and wife Susannah died 15 JAN 1855 age 74 yrs., 8 months buried in a cemetery on Dean Road, Kingsbury, Washington county NY.) Adolphus and Elethear GREEN lived in Monroe Co., NY from about 1821 to 1823 and Danville, Steuben Co., NY from 1824 to 1830. By 1831, they resided in Greenwich twp., Huron Co., Ohio before moving to Livingston Co., MI. I have a lot of info on the family but cannot find any info on Elethear COLE and her parents or brothers or sisters.

I am serching for Mary BOWLES and family of Huron Co,Ohio. Greenwich Twp. She is seen in the 1860 New London Twp.,Ohio, census visiting my newly immigrated gggrandparents ,Richard and Diana Bowles and sons. She is 18 in the 1860 census. and shown as born in Ohio. I would appreciate any kind of info on her, who her parents are etc. I think this may help me in connecting some pieces. as she is most likely a Bowles relative. This is still my brick wall in finding the city/county of origin of my gggrandparents after many months of active searching and hoping this will help.

Ken Shute Look Up Results - According to our Huron County, Ohio publications, Rev. Dr. T.F.. HILDRETH was a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church in the township of Norwalk, 1869-1872. It appears that Rev. Dr. T.F. HILDRETH would have been about age 77 when he officiated at the funeral of Charles STREETER in 1903. Details- 1 History of the Fire Lands, by W.W. Williams, 1879, Page 160. Lists T.F. HILDRETH as minister, 1869 (-1872) of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Norwalk Township. Page 427. In a biographical sketch of John S. Hester, Rev. T. F. HILDRETH was mentioned as "a distingushed minister of the (Methodist Episcopal) Church, now a resident of Jackson, Michigan." 2. Picturesque Huron County, Ohio, 1896. Page 290. Biographical sketch of Rev. T.F. HILDRETH, A.M., D.D. Some highlights- Native of Tompkins County, NY; b. 29 Nov 1826. Came with parents to Huron County in 1833. Educated in country schools and old Norwalk seminary. Studied law in office of Hon. Samuel T. Wooster. Licensed as a local preacher in M.E. church before being admitted to the bar. Later stationed in 1864 to Trinity M.E. church in New York City. Returned to Norwalk, OH in 1867 because of failing health. Given charge of local M.E. church a year later. Since held many prominant pastorates in Michigan and Ohio. Known as eloquent speaker, lecturer, and pulpit orator. Same book, page 100. Displays a picture of the "Residence of Dr. T. F. HILDRETH, Corner East Main and Old State Road, Norwalk." 3. Just Like Old Times, Book VI, by Henry Timman, as published originally in the Norwalk Reflector, Norwalk, Ohio. Page 151. Article titled: "40 year-old wound claimed contractor," dated Nov. 17, 1989. This is a somewhat lengthy but interesting article on Charles B. STREETER who enlisted in the 14th Ohio Infantry when about 15 years old, then later transferred to the 55th OVI ("Norwalk's 'own' regiment"). It describes some of the battles he engaged in, the wounds he suffered as a consequence, his marriage to Helen HADLEY, his work as a building contractor, and some details about other members of his family - son Fred STREETER and father Rial STREETER. The article mentions that Charles B. STREETER died Dec. 5, 1903 in Norwalk - as a result of a gunshot wound suffered 40 years earlier in 1863 at the battle of Chancellorsville. His "funeral was conducted from the family home on Cline St. by the GAR (Grand Army of the Republic), and he was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery." The title page and foward to this publication by Henry Timman states that the articles therein are copyrighted by the Norwalk Reflector Newspaper. If you wanted to see the article in its entirety, perhaps you could buy a copy of JLOT, Book VI from Henry Timman (3985 Medusa Rd., Norwalk, OH 44857-9520), contact the Norwalk Reflector for a copy of the article, or request an interlibrary loan of the publication from your local library.
