Ken Shute Look Up Results - I was unable to come up with anything definite on your James CRAWFORD and Clarissa HOUCK in our Huron County, Ohio publications. There was only one very brief mention of a CRAWFORD family in our History of the Fire Lands, by W.W. Williams, 1879. In the chapter on Fairfield Township, Huron County, Ohio, under the heading of "Early Settlers," the following appears- "The CRAWFORDs- John, Joseph, and James, came in (to the township) about this time (circa 1821 according to the preceding paragraph), but did not remain long." Don't know if this could relate to your CRAWFORD family or not. I found one other reference that might relate to your James Levi Crawford. It appeared in Ancestry.com in one of their Civil War links. Details- Name- James L. CRAWFORD. Residence- Jay County, Indiana. Enlisted in Company A, 12th Infantry Regiment, Indiana 30 Dec 1864. Transferred 8 June 1865 in Washington D.C. Transferred in 59th Infantry Regiment, Indiana 8 June 1865. The residence, and age (about age 35 when enlisted), could fit your James Levi CRAWFORD. If you think he might be yours, perhaps you could get more information by writing to National Archives, Washington, D.C for a copy of his military records.

Adele ? Look Up Results - My ggGrand father was born in Huron County, Ohio in 1824 and I have been looking for his parents for several years. At one time I thought he was James CRAWFORD, born 1793, youngest son of Joseph CRAWFORD and Margaret SHANKLAND. James CRAWFORD m. Lucy WALLACE and had 5 children- Almira, James, Emily, Lucy and Martha. When I received this information I did not note the person's name who sent it to me. They moved from Huron County, Ohio and finally ended up in Sauk City, Wisconsin.

Ken Shute Lookup Results-- I found some references to what you reported on the MCKELVEYs, but I'm afraid I couldn't specifically pin down the parents of Eliza MCKELVEY who married Cyrenius STARR 29 Sep 1822. I also found an index to the will of Cyrenius STARR which might be helpful. From the references, it appears there was a family consisting of William MCKELVEY, Sr., and at least two sons: William, Jr. and Matthew, who eventually settled in Greenfield Township, Huron County, Ohio. Matthew MCKELVEY married Nancy ADAMS 28 Mar 1819. William MCKELVEY, Jr. married Saloma ASHLEY 3 Dec 1817. 1. History of the Fire Lands, by W.W. Williams, 1879. Page 214. Greenfield Township. Mentions that William MCKELVEY, Jr. arrived from Trumbull County, in 1810. He married Saloma ASHLEY in December, 1817. She was the daughter of James ASHLEY of Peru Township, Huron County. They moved to Hardin County in 1835, then returned to Greenfield Township after six years. Saloma died in 1853. In the fall of 1854, William MCKELVEY, Jr. married Mrs. Electa GRANT. William, Jr. was born 21 July 1790 in Westmoreland County, PA. In 1804, William, Jr. came with his father, William MCKELVEY, Sr. to Ohio, settling in Pamyra Township, Portage County Ohio. In 1806 or 1807 the family moved to Trumbull County, Ohio. William, Sr. came to Greenfield Township in 1815 and settled on section 2, lot 26. In 1819 he moved to Plymouth Township, Richland County, Ohio where he later died. 2. Picturesque Huron County, Ohio, 1896. Page 288. Biographical sketch on Matthew MCKELVEY. Matthew was born in Westmoreland County, PA 30 Jan 1794. His father was William MCKELVEY who served in the Revolutionary War. The family moved from PA to Portage County, OH in 1804, then to Trumbull County, OH in 1806, finally to Greenfield Township, Huron County in 1815. Matthew married Nancy ADAMS 7 Mar 1818 in Greenfield Township. Soon after, they moved to the town of Portland, now the city of Sandusky. 3. History of Huron County, Ohio, by A.J. Baughman, 1909. Vol. 1, Page 223. The first person to come to Greenfield Township to settle was William MCKELVEY, Jr. who arrived from Trumbull County, Ohio in 1810. After news of Hull's surrender, he returned to Trumbull County, where his father and the rest of his family were staying, and joined the army as a volunteer for six months. In 1814 he returned to Greenfield Township, Huron County. He was elected constable at the first township election in 1816. Vol. 2, Page 382. Biograpical Sketch on Martha M. LOVELL. Describes Martha M. LOVELL as the daughter of Matthew and Nancy (ADAMS) MCKELVEY. Matthew came to Huron County with his father and older brother and settled in Greenfield Township. He died in 1853. Matthew and Nancy had 10 children. 4. Marriages of Huron County, Ohio, 1815-1900, by Scheuer Publications. Martha F. MCKELVEY m. Ethan LOVELL 29 Dec 1854. Matthew MCKELVEY m. Nancy ADAMS 28 Mar 1819. William MCKELVEY, Jr. m. Saloma ASHLEY 3 Dec 1817. Plat Book of 1845, Huron County, Ohio. Cyrenus STARR, Greenfield Twp, page 48, section 4, lot 38, 103.71 acres. Mathew MCKELVEY, Greenfield Twp, page 48, section 4, lot 36, 61 acres. Orange STARR, Greenfield Twp, page 48, section 4, lot 25, 92.6 acres. Note- The northwest corner of Cyrenus STARR's property touches the southeast corner of Mathew MCKELVEY's property. The property of Orange STARR adjoins that of Mathew MCKELVEY's to the north. You can view this plat map of 1845 on the Huron County, OH home page. I could see no other MCKELVEY's in this immediate area. Plat Book of 1845 (Cont'd). Ethan LOVELL, Greenfield Twp, page 46,section 2, lot 28, 50 acres. 5. Atlas of 1873, Huron County, Ohio. Ethan LOVELL, Greenfield Twp, page 31, section 2, lot 27 117 acres; section 2, lot 28, 50 acres. I note from the Queries page on the Huron County home page that you already have the cemetery inscription information for Cyrenius STARR and Eliza MCKELVEY, so won't send that to you. 6. Early Estates Index, Huron County, Ohio Court Records, 1812-1852. Syrenius STARR, Will, Jun 1849. Sources- Will Record "A", page 227. Probate Docket # 2; page 2. Probate Docket of 1849; page 7. Common Pleas Journal # 9; page 211. Packet (original papers which still exist). The spelling of the surname references I found was almost always as MCKELVEY. I found no spellings as MCKELVY or MCKEVLY in our Cemetery Inscriptions book, our History of the Fire Lands, or our History of Huron County, Ohio by A.J. Baughman.

They resided in Huron Co., Ohio from sometime after 1823 to after 18 Sept 1850 when they were listed on the 1850 Huron Co., Ohio census. I know that they must have had more children then are listed on the 1850 census and my ancestor, Elijah and Rebecca CRAWFORD moved to Williams Co., Ohio by the time of the 1860 census and both died there in 1869. Elijah CRAWFORD was b. abt 1780 in Northumberland Co., PA. Rebecca was also born there abt 1790. She may have been his second wife.

Ken Shute Lookup Results-- The index to our copy of the Plat Book of 1845 does indeed show a William Watson owning property in Ripley Twp, Section 1, Lot 17 on page 69. However, there may have been an error in transcribing the name of the owner of this property, as it appeared originally on the map, to the Index. Our map shows a "Wm. WESTON," not a "Wm. WATSON," owning property in this location. Since the 1845 Plat book map appears as a link on the Huron County home page (sites.rootsweb.com/~ohhuron), you can view this for yourself. Go to the link 1845 Plat Book Map Images , then click on the link for Ripley Twp, Sect. 1, page 69. Finally, go to the bottom row of lots for this section and count four squares from the left, then three squares up. Thos will bring you to lot 17 with the name of Wm. WESTON (not WATSON). I checked all of our other Huron County, Ohio publications for any reference to "William WATSON" without success.

On the 16th of Mar 1819 in Huron Co., OH Mary Ann DAGGETT was born to parents Orlean DAGGETT and ? On the 4th of Nov 1821 Orlean DAGGETT was married to Elizabeth REEMON in Wood Co., OH. Mary Ann DAGGETT was raised by Orlean DAGGETT and Elizabeth RIMA and there were never any other children. When Mary Ann DAGGETT died, she was Mary Ann LOOMIS and was living in Kansas. Her body was shipped back to Ohio, county unknown to be buried. Now for the mystery: was Elizabeth RIMA the same as Elizabeth REEMON? Does anyone know of a marriage of an Orlean DAGGETT to ? before 1819? Was Orlean married three times, 1) to the mother of Mary Ann, 2) to Elizabeth REEMON, 3) to Elizabeth RIMA? Could the reason Mary Ann DAGGETT LOOMIS' body was shipped back to Ohio be so she could be buried by her mother? Is anyone on this list researching Huron, or Wood County, Ohio surnames of DAGGETT, REEMON or RIMA and have the answer to these questions?

I am having a hard time finding Henry's family. He was killed by the cars of a train and has a short listing in the probate records and less in the newspapers in 6 Nov 1879.I don't know when Henry or his family came to your area but I thought I would check cemetery listings against census records and see if I could find a thread to follow. They were married, according to a newspaper obit Nov, 1871 it may have been Oct, 29,1872. They lived in the New London area.

Ken Shute Look Up Results-- In checking our Huron County, Ohio books, I have the feeling that Henry SAXTON may have come to Huron County sometime 1870-1872. Our Huron County marriage book shows he married Tryphena MERRILL in 1872, but that's the last we see of him except for a record of a death certificate in 1879. He's not in our 1870 Census of Huron County, which would be expected if he is the same as the Henry SAXTON listed in the 1870 Census of Lorain County, OH. And he's not in our 1880 Census of Huron County, which would be expected if he died in 1879 as you state. His name does not appear in any of our Huron County books earlier than 1872 when he married Tryphena. While I find Tryphena's name in our Cemetery Inscription book, I can find no cemetery (burial) listing for Henry SAXTON. Here is what I found, some of which I suspect you already have. 1. I am looking for anyone that would have access to a book titled, "Pioneer Women of the Western Reserve". I need copies of the Hartland Township section especially pages 645-646. According to note in some handwritten family history transcribed out of a family bible long lost, there is an article on Sarah (WELLS) ODELL and her daughter, Olive (ODELL) DOLBEE. This would be a great additional and support for my family tree.

I have an Emma (Amy) PAULE, b. 1842, who married an ODELL in Ohio. Have been looking for their relatives. Emma's parents immigrated to Sandusky, Ohio in 1838 from Baden, Germany. Their name was PAULI, later changed to PAULE. Anton (Anthony) PAULI died in Sandusky, Ohio in 1865 and Viktoria (Viktoria) GLUCK died in Fremont, Huron Co. in 1871. Emma is listed as living in Sandusky Co. Ohio at the time of Viktoria's death in 1871. She is listed as Emma O'DELL. Emma's sister, Mary Elizabeth PAULI OPPENHEIMER, is listed as living in Norwalk, Huron Co, Ohio Her brother John PAULI is listed as living in Huron Co. Ohio. There were several other PAULI (PAULE) relatives in the area as well. I have a picture of Emma's grandchildren I am trying to contact to return the picture. I am also of the PAULI (PAULE) line through Anton and his first wife Maria Theresia FAISST who died in Germany leaving 13 children. He remarried and they all immigrated to Sandusky, Ohio along with my great great grandfather and his brothers (MUTZ). So I think that any PAULI (PAULE) and MUTZ people there are mine. My Gr Great Grandfather did move to Michigan later. Anyway, I am trying to find Emma O'DELL's (Amy?) husband's name and her family to share info and pictures. I have the PAULI (PAULE) line back to the 1600's. Emma was born March 15, 1842 in Kappel am Rhine, Baden, Germany.

Patti O'Dell Look Up Results - There are several ODELLs in Ohio. I have quite a list of the ODELLs I have run across but the Name PAULE doesn't match. Do you know any more details? A majority of my ODELLs lived in Huron County, Ohio before moving to Michigan (various parts). They were originally from New York (Dutchess, Washington, and Warren Counties). The reason for moving to Ohio was the Erie Canal work. The reason for moving to Michigan was the availability of land for farming and raising families.

If in the 1850's you had a MOSIER-MOSER line in Bellevue,(or any other spelling of this name) I may be able to help you. The spelling of the name was changed from MOSER to MOSIER when the family arrived in NY in 1851. My G'Grand parents came from Switzerland in 1851 and went to Bellevue Ohio (see the 1860 Bellevue, Ohio census Nicholas MOSIER). They had 8 children. Nicholas, Jr., the oldest, was my Grandfather. The children Nicholas, John, Elizabeth, and Charles were born in Switzerland. Marie, William, James and Edward were born in Bellevue, Ohio.

Does any one have an index to Woodlawn Cemetery? If so, could you look up the dates on an Agnes ROOD BURT? I know she is buried there, just forgot to make a copy with her dates and stuff. She was m. to Franklin BURT, would like his too if he is there.

Ken Shute Look Up Results - From what I found on Agnes B. ROOD, there is a suggestion that she might have married an E.N. EDGERTON as a second marriage after her marriage to Franklin BURT. Franklin BURT appears to have died in Maui, Hawaii in 1921 at age 68. Details- 1. Huron County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions. Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk Township, Page 567. I could find no records in this Cemetery Book for either Franklin BURT or E.N. EDGERTON. 2. Huron County, Ohio Marriages, 1815-1900, by Scheuer Publications. Franklin BURT m. Agnes B. Port Chester, NY, wife of Franklin BURT. 4. Google search engine turned up following site- hml.org/mmhc/mdindex/burt.html. In it, under "Mamiya Medical Heritage Center," appears an article on Franklin BURT. Among other highlights, he was born in Paris, Ontario, Canada on March 5, 1854; was a medical doctor, receiving his M.D. in 1889; moved to Norwalk, Ohio as a young man, living there for a number of years; moved to Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii in June, 1905 from southern California to take over the practice of another doctor; was joined in Maui by his wife and daughter in March, 1906; continued to practice medicine in various capacities and at various locations in Hawaii until his retirement in October 1919; and died at Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii on December 9, 1921. 5. So far, I have found nothing further on E.N. EDGERTON.

I am still looking for info on John HEATER. I have found him in the 1880 census along with his brothers, Nicholas HEATER and Chris HETHER. I cannot seem to locate him in the 1870 census but did find Chris. I am searching for any records that might lead me to information on John's first wife, Mary WARREN. They had three children Jacob, b 1867; Mary Elizabeth (my grandmother), b 1869; and John, b 1870. I have info on a Mary HUTER who died on Sept 27, 1872 during childbirth, which I believe is Mary WARREN as John remarried on Oct 13, 1874 at St Joseph's Church in Monroeville. I have found a Mary WARREN in the 1850 census that could be the same Mary that died in 1872 based on the age at her death. Are there any church records that I could search for additional information since I can't seem to locate any more civil records and can't find any info in the 1870 census?

Ken Shute Look Up Results - I was unable to come up with anything definite on Mary WARREN, but I did find a number of references to a John HEATER, some or all of which you may already have. There appears to be a John HEATER and family in Bellevue, Lyme Twp, Huron County, OH. Also, another John HEATER and family is in Thompson Twp, Seneca County, OH. The western part of Bellevue is in Sandusky County. The northeast corner of Thompson Township, Seneca County, OH is close to Bellevue also. I leave it to you to sort out the Heat(ers) from the chaff.
