I am not a TERMAN researcher, (however I do have a connection as Helen BARRE married Charles TERMAN). Due to this, I am currently in contact with another TERMAN researcher who would like the gravestone inscriptions of Harry W. TERMAN and his wife Mary E. COBBAN as listed in the Huron County cemetery book. If anyone can help him, I will pass on the information. He stated there is quite a genealogical outline of the TERMANs on the Richland County site.

I am looking for information on John Caspar HAAS, born to Jacob HAAS and Christiana HAAS on December 18,1855. He is my Great-Great Grandfather. We have his certificate of baptism, which is in German(I have scanned this and can e-mail it out if needed for reference). He was baptized Johann Caspar HAAS in Peru, Huron County, OH. Caspar Joseph HAAS and Maria DUFFNER are listed as god parents. My brother has done a little bit of research and believes that maybe Jacob and Christiana moved to Peru from Pennsylvania or possibly came directly from Europe shortly before that. But he's not certain because he has been unable to find any factual information to back that up. It may be that he was the first generation from our family born in America. On November 21, 1878 he married Sara Ellen OVERMYER, who was born in 1854. She is the daughter of William OVERYMYER and Mary FETTERMAN. She died in 1934 and is also buried in the Lindsey, OH cemetery. John died in 1941 and is buried in the Lindsey, OH cemetery. Any information would be wonderful. To see all the information I have go to this website: http://eddie-shelly.8m.com/jcfam.html

Please look up MICHALIK, Ignatius J. pg 796. He was an orphan who came from Cleveland to work on my great grandfather's farm (Roman MEYER). He stayed the rest of his life on that farm and was known as Uncle Ig. My family speaks of him still, although I barely have a memory of him. They all agree that he should be part of our family tree as he was definitely one of the family.

We were recently on a holiday in South Carolina and made our way home to Ontario by way of Ohio. Thanks to your directions we found Steuben Cemetery and were able to take pictures of my 5th great grandfather's monument and Revolutionary War plaque as well as some of his sons and other relatives. The Church of the Master was referred to in a letter I have from a descendant of James ASHLEY written to the museum in Deerfield, Mass. in about 1895. Is this the same church do you think at Steuben or has it been rebuilt? We then went over to Norwalk and found some good information about the family in a book in the local history section. Some of that information referred to Greenfield Cemetery. Where is that?

Ken Shute Look Up Results - An article written by Henry Timman in his Just Like Old Times series indicates that the "Church of the Old Master" is the name given to the old Free Will Baptist Church built by the Free Will Baptist Society in Steuben in 1843. It was built on a lot just east of the Steuben Cemetery in Greenfield Township. The Free Will Baptists are reported as being organized by Elder John Wheeler in 1829. It flourished until 1871 when several members left to join the Congregational Church. The Free Will Baptist Church later was closed until 1900 when it opened for a few years as a Presbyterian Church. Still later, in 1913, the Greenfield Memorial Association was organized to repair the old Free Will Baptist Church for use for funerals in the neighborhood. Details on this article can be found in Henry Timman's Just Like Old Times, Book 5, Page 117, article titled "Fire early in 1933 destroyed Steuben Church." (Refers to the fire that destroyed the Congregational Church on the west side of the square in Steuben.) Article was dated Mar. 28, 1986. A second reference to the "Church of the Old Master" appears in Henry Timman's Just Like Old Times Book 1, Page 42, article titled "Clip for a Trip," dated Jan. 19, 1973. This article describes the picturesque attractions that can be seen on a Sunday afternoon drive around the Firelands, including "the pretty Church of the Master at Steuben (which) was built as a Freewill Baptist Church in 1843." Finally, in our History of the Firelands by W.W. Williams, 1879, there is a reference on page 307 (Chapter on New Haven Township) to a James ASHLEY who preached at one of the revivals held at the Free Will Baptist Church in New Haven. This church was organized on May 9, 1838, and the present church (as of 1879) was built in 1843 on the southwest corner of lot 33, secton 2 at a cost of $800.00. I don't know if this James ASHLEY could be related to yours, but thought you might be interested.

I was reading the church history pages on the Huron website and am wondering if anyone knows further information about James McINTYRE. The church history pages say he was a Methodist circuit preacher who helped to start and or pastored several churches in Huron County. Where did he come from and where did he go next? The only James McINTYRE in the Cemetery Inscriptions book died at age 32 so is most likely not the preacher James. The 1820 Huron Co. census shows James McINTYRE living next door to Samuel KNAPP. and started me wondering if preacher James is connected to my Tirzah McINTYRE KNAPP (wife of Samuel KNAPP) b. about 1791 in VT and found in the 1850 census in Fulton County.

My sister-in-law and I have just started our geneology search this summer. James MORRISON COONEY was their father. His parents were Blanche MORRISON (b.1864) and Harvey COONEY (b.1869) in Bryan,Ohio. His father was Dr.Harvey COONEY who was born in PA and moved to Bryan. Blanche's parents were Thomas MORRISON and Hannah Olivia BURRAS. Thomas was born in PA in 1838 and came to Huron County as a child. I have been unable to find Thomas MORRISON father's name. His mother's name was Jane.I do not know her maiden name. She lists her birthplace as Virginia. I found her on an 1860 census in Hartland. She had David 25, William 19, Mary 16, and John 15 living with her. Thomas was 22 and living in Fairfield as a wagon maker. I believe Olivia BURRAS MORRISON was born in Olena in 1841. Her father Samuel and her mother Sally VROMAN were born in New York. Thomas became very successful in Bryan. He owned Morrison and Fay manufacturing company. He designed the Bryan plow. He died at 42 and Olivia died at 46. If you have any information on Thomas MORRISON's family we would greatly appreciate it. From what we can gather the person who was the guardian for Blanche and her brother Thomas after their parents died ran off with their money. I have also run into a dead end trying to trace her brother Thomas Frederick who was born in 1869 in Bryan. Blanche died when her clothing caught fire in her home in Cleveland in 1924. Blanche and Harvey were married almost 20 years when they had their son James who they seemed to have called Thomas. He contracted meningitis when my husband was 2 months old. So we had no family history and have been very excited to find all this interesting family.

I am looking for family information on a Calvin GOODRICH (1830 Huron Co. Census), b. 1774 Hartford Co., CT, d. 1855 Cass Co., Mich. He married Anne GOULD in Auburn, Cayuga Co., NY. I'm 99% sure that Calvin & Anne are the parents of Sarah Ann GOODRICH b. 1819 Cayuga Co., NY, m. Isaac SCOTT 1836 Huron Co., Ohio & Abigail GOODRICH b. 1824 Cayuga Co., NY m., Francis P. TERRY. Calvin died intestate and the only legal paper that survived only gives the names of his sons. I have sent for Calvin & Anne's obits (hoping there are some) to see if they can shed light onto this family connection. If anyone has been researching GOODRICH's in Huron County and have notes on this family please e-mail me.
