My GGGranny was Clarissa BOWERS, b abt 1805, either Long Island NY or "On the Ocean", who married Rufus LOVE in Huron Co OH, 22 Mar 1821. They were in Norwalk, Huron Co OH, on the 1840 Census, but I have not located them after that. Their daughter, Elmira LOVE married Jared SMITH, supposedly in Monroe Co MI, in 1848, although there is no record there. Elmira was my GGranny. Clarissa's father was Silas BOWERS, mother Marvel ? There is a writeup about the early pioneers in the "Firelands Pioneer", Nov 1858, which states that Silas BOWERS came into Fairfield Twp in 1816. It describes how, in early 1818, he froze to death while hunting deer. In addition to Clarissa, he and Marvel also had a son Silas, who was also a minor when Silas died.

Ken Shute Look Up Results - Here are a few miscellaneous items from our Huron County, Ohio publications which appear to relate to your LOVE and BOWERS families. They probably duplicate what you already have, but here they are nevertheless- 1. Huron County Ohio Marriages, by Scheuer Publications. Rufus LOVE m. Clarissa BOWERS 2 Mar 1821. Silas BOWERS m. Mary Ann TRUX 6 Jan 1833. (In the online IGI site, TRUX appears as TRIX). 2. History of the Firelands, by W.W. Williams, 1879. Page 303. New Haven Township. Lists Rufus LOVE as one of 86 "householders" in New Haven Township in 1826. He was listed among those in school district No. 1. Page 219. Greenfield Township. Mentions Silas BOWERS settled in the east part of the township in 1816. The item goes on to describe the incident in 1818 when Silas froze to death while hunting deer. 3. Huron County, Ohio Kinologist. Vol. 7, No. 1, Page 215, Spring 1992. Under heading of Index to Huron (County) Early Guardianships: Clarissa BOWERS Oct 1819. Silas BOWERS Oct 1819. 4. Early Estate Index, Huron County Ohio Court Records, 1812-1852. Silas BOWERS Estate Feb 1818. Husband of Marvel. Sources: Probate Docket # 1; page 7. Inventory Record # 1; page 179. Common Pleas Journal, Feb 1818. Packet (original papers). In addition to the above, Ancestry.com, under the link Ancestry World Tree Viewer, contains the pedigree for Rufus LOVE who married Clarissa A. BOWERS. It gives the parents of Rufus as John LOVE and Sarah Sally HULL. The LOVE line in this pedigree chart ends with John, but the HULL line goes back to Samuel HULL, Josiah HULL and Samuel HULL. The address of the submitter of this information was listed as [email protected] same person also had an entry in the Ancestry World Tree Viewer for Silas BOWERS. Perhaps you've already been in touch with this person. (Or is this your nom de plume?) Finally, in Ancestry.com, census records show a Rufus LOVE in Huron County, Ohio in 1830 ("New Huron Twp"), and in 1840 (Norwalk Twp).

In a recent packet of information that I received from George Campbell, reference was made to a 6 page newspaper article written in 1876 (or there abouts) pertaining to his relatives who lived in Lyme township. This article was written by "Forbie BAKER". Does anyone know anything about this person? What paper this article was from? This could have been a Norwalk paper or some other paper in the area. Looking for Lyme Township BAKERs from about 1840.

Ken Shute Look Up Results - Our History of the Fire Lands, by W.W. Williams, 1879, describes a BAKER family that appeared in Lyme Township as early as 1815. Pages 379 & 380, Lyme Township: mentions that John BAKER, one of the earliest settlers of Lyme township, came to the township in 1815. John was born near Boston, MA in 1765; he died 15 Dec 1817. He was one of the 10 original members of the Presbyterian Church of Lyme, organized in July 1817. John was the father of Hiram BAKER who was born in Homer, Cortland County, NY in 1798. After his father's death, Hiram, at age 18, managed his father's farm, then later sold it. Hiram later moved to Bellevue (then Amsden's Corners), and went into the boot and shoe business. He died 17 Dec 1874 at age 76 years and a few months. In 1826 Hiram married Mary Ann FORBES with whom he had three children- Arabella, Henry and Hiram F. The latter (Hiram F. BAKER) was the editor, proprietor and publisher of the "Local News." Hiram F. BAKER's first wife died in 1835, and he later married Catharine HAGAMAN, daughter of John HAGAMAN of Palmyra, NY. Hiram F. and Catharine had two children: John H. and David. David BAKER was killed in the Civil War near Petersburgh, VA. Page 380. Lyme Township: mentions Thurza BAKER, sister of Hiram BAKER, married George SHEFFIELD in 1819. She was his second wife. On 20 Aug 1834 Thurza died of the cholera. Her death was followed a few days later by the death of her husband from the same disease, on 23 August 1834. Page 404, Business Directory of Bellevue, Lyme Township (presumably ca 1879) lists- Printing Offices - H.F. BAKER & Son, publishers of the "Bellevue Local News." This may be a long stretch, but if the "F" in Hiram F. stands for FORBES, after his mother, and he went by this middle name, "Forbie" might seem to be a possible nickname. To supplement the above, the following BAKERs appear in our 1870 Census Index for Bellevue Village, Census Page 331- Catherine BAKER, age 54, born in NY. Hiram BAKER, age 70, born in NY.

I would like to check on a piece of property in Fairfield Township, in Huron County that was owned by the Asher P. KELLOGG family. They owned it probably over a 30 to 40 year period, It is shown on the 1845, 1873, 1891 plat map(Section 3, Lot 18). Possibly he purchased it in the 1830's, as he was married in Huron Co. in 1834, and I have a reference to him being in the township in 1836, as a trustee for the Hinkley Cemetery. What I would like is a brief history of when the land was purchased, what happened to it after the death of Asher in 1869, concerning the heirs, and whether it was sold by his wife Polly after her death in 1894.

Query regarding a Joseph MOORE-- "I went to Norwalk Infirmary Cemetery and was so surprised when I saw 3 graves. ... Grave next to it was Joseph MOORE New Jersey Line Rev War 1761 1849 (star next to it said 1776)." query submitted by Norma Miller. Theron MOORE, born 1786 Essex County, New York, was the son of Joseph MOORE born about 1764 Southwick, Massachusetts and Hannah MILLER MOORE. Theron's first wife was Keziah ALDRICH who died in 1818, either in Huron County or on the way there from Essex County, New York. Theron and Keziah had at least three known children - Lucetta born about 1808, Theron born 1810, and Stephen born 1815. After Keziah's death, Theron married Clarissa GRAY in Huron County, Ohio 9 Aug 1819. At some point they left Huron County for Lorain County, where they were divorced about 1827. I am wondering what the relationship might be between Joseph born 1761 and Joseph born 1764. I am also wondering if there were additional children of Theron and Keziah ALDRICH MOORE who may have remained in Huron County, Ohio. On the 1845 Plat Book map there is a John MOORE next to an "I. MOORE" in Lyme township, section 3. In the 1850 census there is a John MOORE, age 57, born New York. Is this the same John MOORE who is shown on the Plat Book map? He had sons "Mass" and "Ransom" which are names associated with the Joseph MOORE of Southwick, Massachusetts family.
