Need a lookup for the following couple in the Huron County Cemetary Book- L.E. ROYCE (dob-dod unknown) and Sarah COYN ROYCE (1857-aft. 1918). They were married in 1876 in Huron county. All I know is that Sarah was alive in 1918 and living in Norwalk, OH. If you find a burial, I'm also curious if there may have been others (children) buried on the plot.

I am trying to find the New London/Nineveh Cemetery Cemetery, but think the spelling is off. An article out of the Ashland Press of May 4, 1893, "Nova" states that "L.B.Crittenden was at New London on Thursday where he acted as pall bearer for Mrs. Charley SINGER, who died on Tuesday, with la grippe and jaundice. She had given birth to a child a few weeks ago which makes the loss more sorrowful to the husband. Her maiden name was STONER and her remains were placed in the Ninevah Cemetary" I didn't change any spelling that came from this article. I think the spelling of the cemetery must of been wrong, but I can't find anything similar. Anyone know of this place or person. I believe her first name was Anna. Charley is the son of John A. SINGER. Charles E., his proper name, was born in 1871 in Ashland Co. OH. He would of been my Gr.Grandfather's nephew. Any help would be very much appreciated.

I am hoping that these MC MAHON's are connected to the MC MAHON's of Huron County. I do have indications that Peter MC MAHON is and so perhaps, Mary is also. It looks like I have two connections of MC MAHON to MC ENERY. My MC MAHON's are Mary and Peter. I am wondering if they could be brother and sister and both married MC ENERY's? Here is the information I have so far. 1. Mary MC MAHON b. 1815 in Ireland; d. February 15, 1898 in Akron, OH; m. John MC ENERNY abt. 1846 in Ireland. Children- Michael b. Sept. 1847 in Ireland; Catherine, b. October 1856 near Ottawa, Ontario. There is also possibly a son, John, born 1852 in Ireland but so far I have not been able to make a solid connection there. Mary and family left Ontario and came to Ohio in 1864 according to daughter Catherine in the 1900 census of Akron, Ohio. Mary was widowed prior to 1870 and was a seamstress by trade. She remarried a fellow by the name of Thomas WADE on August 23, 1875 in Akron, Ohio. I have no further information on him other than he was 80 years old in the 1900 census. 2. Peter McMC MAHON; b. 1820 in Ireland; d. unknown; m Catharine MC ENERY on January 29, 1869 in Lawrence, Ohio. Children- Thomas; b. 1871; Catharine; b. 1872; George, b. 1876. All children were born in Lawrence, Ohio. Peter is noted in the 1880 census of Ironton, Ohio as a police officer and again in a society directory in 1893. After that he just seems to have disappeared. Any connections??

I have found in the Huron County, Ohio Index of Cemetery Inscriptions two names that may be my great-grand parents. They are Mary A. CROW and W. Irving MORRIS; both are on page 425. The reason I say "may" is that their names were given years ago, verbally. I do know that my grandmother lived in New London, Huron Co., Ohio in 1900's. My grandmother and her husband Barton MORRIS 1910 Census for Huron Co. Ohio. Mary A. CROW MORRIS and W. Irving MORRIS, although in-laws, may have lived there too, although I couldn't find them in the 1910 Census. It's to coincidental to pass up asking. Any help is very much appreciated.

Ken Shute Look Up Results - Except for two references, I could find no references to Solomon COURTRIGHT (and variations), including our Cemetery Inscriptions book. But these two references appear to have interesting information. They are- 1. Early Estate Index, Huron County, Ohio Court Records, 1812-1852. Solomon CORTRIGHT/CORTWRITE Estate, Sep 1844. Sources: Probate Docket # 1; page 217. Common Pleas Journal # 8, page 94. Packet. You might write Probate Court, Huron County Courthouse, 2 East Main St., Norwalk, Ohio 44857 for further details/copies. In 1992, when this Index was published, the last two documents were described as being held in temporary storage in the Administration Building Basement, 180 Milan Ave., Norwalk, OH 44857. Alternatively, you could have a volunteer in the Norwalk area try to dig out these documents. 2. Just Like Old Times, by Henry Timman, published originally in the Norwalk Reflector newspaper. Book 1, Page 113. Article titled "Norwalk's First Graduation," dated June 7, 1974. This article mentions that one of the earliest, largest families that lived in the Firelands was that of Solomon CARTWRIGHT or CORTWRIGHT, who died in Peru Township, Huron County, Ohio 27 May 1844 at age 95. Solomon was born in New Jesey and served in the Continental Army there. He married Hannah AYRES and came to Peru Township as an old man. Solomon and Hannah were the parents of three sons and seven daughters. In 1861, six daughters were still living and gathered June 16th to pay homage at their father's last resting place. They were (after the name of the daughter, read number of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, if any)- Catherine DAVENPORT of Wood Co. (Ohio), age 75. (10, 39 16). Elizabeth EASTMAN of Wisconsin, age 72. (10, 50, 5). Hannah VAN SICKLE of Delaware Co. (Ohio), age 70. (12, 48, 1). Rachel COVERT of Norwalk (Ohio), age 65. (10, 38). Osey STEPHENS of Fulton Co. (Ohio), age 63. (7, 31), and Phebe STEPHENS of Delaware Co. (Ohio), age 61. (13, 27).

It appears that there is a set of twins - not only by age, but also by name. Could my Della be a nickname for Adelfa? Another 'clue' that I have is that Della named her only child Edna, which makes me think that her sister Edna could have died young.

I am looking for information on Josiah ROOT, b.1768, m. to Phebe VINTON ROOT, who both are buried in Huron Co., and especially their son David VINTON ROOT. David is my ancestor. There were 6 other children- Josiah, Anson, Eber, Horace, Hiram and Sophia, who married Wyatt COOK/COOKE. David left Ohio at some point and landed in MO, where he married Margaret MCDONALD abt. 1846. Our family history has a birth date for David abt. 1806, which would have made him some what old for a 1846 marriage date. David's daughter, my G-grand, Vintie ROOT MCDONALD LUTZ(1) MCDONALD(2) (married a cousin with same last name) died in 1907 while visiting ROOT cousins in NE Ohio but we don't know which ones.

I have a John CROW (my gr-gr-grandfather) who disappeared from Canada in the mid 1850's with his brother, Robert CROW. I just found out a John CROW was buried at the Steuben Cemetery. How can I find out any more info about this John CROW? It is very important to my research that I establish John CROW, either brother of Robert, or son of Robert (that is his father's name) or born in Ontario. He was living in Raleigh ON before he disappeared, and his wife's name is Jeanne OUELLETTE. She also disappeared, but maybe she died first and he went to Huron County to see his brother.

Note- The property of a Benjamin KNIFFIN adjoins that of Samuel's to the east (400 acres), and to the south (48.5 acres). 5. Atlas of 1891, Huron County, Ohio. Sam'l. BROWN, Greenwich Twp, page 47, section 2, lot 7, 100 acres. (Could this be his estate, since the cemetery inscription had his death date as 1888?) 6. Picturesque Huron County, Ohio, 1896. Page 183. Depicts the "Residence of Mrs. Eleanor BROWN, Greenwich Township. Erected in 1840." (What appears to be a man and a young child are standing in front of the house.) 7. 1870 Census Index, Huron County, Ohio. Samuel BROWN, age 41, born in OH, census page 312 for Greenwich Township. Other BROWNs, apparently part of Samuel's family, appear on census page 312A for Greenwich Township. Read first name, age, and place of birth. Charles, 4, IN; Ella, 36, IN; Fanny, 6, IN; Harry, 10, IN; Nancy, 1. OH; William, 1, OH; Wilson, 8, IN. If Ella here is your Eleanor/Ella, and Wilson is J. Wilson, it would seem this could be your family of Samuel and Eleanor/Ella. The approximate birth years, based on the ages given, seem to fit. It would further suggest that Samuel and Ella were married by, or before, 1860, and they moved to OH from IN sometime 1866-1869. This Wilson would have been about the right age (23) when he married Kittie May KNIFFIN in 1885. A final thought- have you checked the Indiana death records to see if Ella/Eleanor Brown might have returned to Indiana sometime after the death of her husband?

Does anyone out there have a good guess what first name a woman who was called Bloomy could have had? I'm working on Bloomy KNIFFIN that married Charles ATWATER, they had a daughter, Cecelia. I have all the info from the books but I can't seem to decipher who would be her parents. I'm beginning to think Bloomy wasn't her real first name.

Would you please check in the "Huron County, Ohio Marriages,1815-1900,compiled and published by Scheuer Publications, 1992," to see if there is a record of a marriage of John HUTHER(HEETHER,HIEDER,HEATER) to Mary WARNT, possibly on 4 Feb 1867. Also, I know that the death index for Huron County shows Mary HUTHER died 09/27/1872, which I believe was Mary WARNT, and I am wondering if you might refer me to any other records that I could search to find out more information about Mary WARNT.

I am interested in Wm HENDRYX. Also, Jacob HENDRYX but I located him first in Scott Co., IN and do not know from whence he came, his father's name, etc. It is interesting that both my husband and I have HENDRICKS/HENDRYX relatives a number of generations past. Both have been very difficult to trace. A John J HENDRYX married my gg aunt named Rhoda Margaret HENDRICKS. My first HENDRICKS is James HENDRICKS in Hendricks Co., IN around 1830. His wife, mother of his children, had died and he remarried. His first wife's name is a mystery. My husband's kin is Jacob HENDRYX, a gggrandfather. Anything is greatly appreciated. My info states that Wm HENDRYX was born in Huron County in 1802.

I am looking for information on a my gr-grandmother, Abbie STEVENS. Abbie was born in 1840 in Ohio "near Tiffin". This has been a most difficult line for my research. Even in visiting the city of Tiffin, Ohio I found nothing. The family had at least two children. The older was Melissa, and the younger sister was 'Abbie', possibly Abagail on birth records. I know positively that these two are sisters. I believe there was a brother named Henry. I have a mention in some papers of an "Uncle Hank" who was a Civil war soldier as a young man. There also may be a Joel and one more brother. I have absolutely nothing on the parents. Melissa, spelled with two l's and/or two s's , went to Wisconsin to live. I do not know if she married there, or was married in Ohio. She married a Garry L. JUDSON. After a couple years, Abbie traveled to join her sister in Wausau. She left by train to Madison, and then on farther in a stage coach to Wausau. She was married there to Peter B. MCKELLAR. I believe a family named DAVIS was related to them, but have no idea how. I have some photos, some of the DAVISes and names, and others have no names on them. I also wondered if anyone knew the different counties that Tiffin was located in, from say 1838 to present. Was it part of Huron Co. at one time. This might prove valuable to me in this search. I have had this data for what seems like 20 years and this last line has proven the hardest for me.

She married Louis PASTOR in the late 1940s and died without issue in Royal Oak, Oakland County, Michigan in 1986. Although we weren't related, Lucy and Louis PASTOR were the closest my brother, sister, and I had to grandparents and we remember them fondly. After Lucy's death, I received her (deteriorating_ valedictory speech scroll and high school and nursing school diplomas (both in excellent condition).
