I recently asked for a lookup from a man who owns that large set of books(can't remember the name of the books)listing Ohioans in the Civil War. The lookup was for William C. REYNOLDS, who along with the usual cemetery info.(died 31, Jy 1900 age 81y, buried in Clarksfield Methodist Cemetary Old Part 1841- Row 3 South) had a reference to GAR Co B 5th Ohio Inf. in the Huron County Cemetery Inscriptions Book. I asked him to look it up And he just got back to me that there was no William C.in the 5th Ohio, however there are 4 other William C.'s from Ohio in other units. He suggested to me that maybe the inscription was weathered and maybe hard to read, which is certainly possible with a stone that old. I have not seen it so I don't know if it's hard to read or if maybe there was some other problem. My problem is how to figure out which (if any) of the other Willaim C.'s or other units is the right one. I was wondering if anybody has access to obituraries that might list his military info? I considered and discarded the idea of ordering a picture because if the stone is hard to read it's unlikely that I would be able to decipher it from a picture. Any other ideas? I have ordered this guys military record from the NARA, now they will probably get back to me that they can't find him because I gave them the 5th Ohio reference. I don't know if they will be able to identify which William it was from the other info I gave them or how willing they are to look beyond what I gave them, not only that but it will be a couple of months before they get back to me And this is perplexing me to no end.

I am looking for any reference to Asher SNOW who was married to Mindana E. or Eunice MINDANA (maiden name MATTHEWS). Asher is in Huron County Cemetery Death Index #67 (Hinkley Cemetery) as well as Eunice M. SNOW. Asher died in 1866. He could have been living with his children who were SNOWs or KELLOGGs. His wife Eunice or Mindana would have died much later. Asher's Daughter was Polly M. SNOW, she was married to Asher Porter KELLOGG (they were married in N. Fairfield, Huron County, Ohio).

I'm looking for information on a Crandall HODGES (born in Huron County) who married a Jennie STEWART (although some of my records list her as a Jennie ALLEN for marriage and a Jennie STEWART HODGES as birth mother of Fredie STEWART). Both of these people died in Huron County. Their son Fredie STEWART, born February 19, 1871, in Huron County, Ohio, and died February 1941, in Huron County. He married Carrie SEATON, born August 19, 1872, in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, (so you wouldn't have them) and died January 1941, in Huron County. Their sons were Wayne, Clyde (who died in Huron, so you might have him), Jack, and Forest SEATON.

Ken Shute Look Up Results - Apart from a marriage reference and a cemetery insciption reference, I could find nothing else specifically on Ezra FACKLER. However, in our Fire Lands book, I did find a FACKLER family which might be antecedent to Ezra. I've included this for what it's worth below, in addition to some ties with the same names which appeared in our other books. 1. History of the Fire Lands, by W.W. Williams, 1879. Page 291. Section on Richmond Township. Mentions Jonas FACKLER came into the township on 30 Apr 1837 and moved into a cabin with Phillip Upp. His younger brother, Jacob FACKLER, came with him and in nine days they had completed a cabin and moved into it. This was on lot two in the second section. He (presumably Jonas) had four sons and one daughter. The sons still live in the township; the daughter died in Michigan. 2. I'm looking for any records on a Philip MCLOUGHLIN/MCLAUGHLIN, who was born in Tintern(?), County Wexford, Ireland sometime around 1800 and settled briefly in Newfoundland before moving to Ohio. He became a riverboat captain there and may have owned his own boat. His sister Mary raised her family in Newfoundland and died there. A brother Matthew emigrated to Philadelphia. I have no information on where in Ohio he settled or whom he married. Any help would be appreciated.

On pg 223 of Cemetery Inscriptions, there are the following entries- Hugh HERL; D (or P) HERL; M HERL; Margaret HERL; Ann HERL. Can anyone tell me what the information is on them? I am wondering especially which cemetery they are buried in. I have info that says it is Immaculate Conception and also at Bellevue Cemetery? Also, are there any dates of birth or death, especially for D and M HERL? Are all 5 of them buried together (next to each other)?

Ken Shute Lookup Results-- I checked our Huron County, Ohio Marriages, 1815-1900, by Scheuer Publications, 1992 for your FACKLER marriages without success. The birth years for many you gave me would make it likely that they wouldn't have married until after 1900, beyond the last year of marriages in our book. If you have any idea of name or locations in Germany, you could try posting your query on an internet Newsgroup dedicated to genealogy in Germany. You could also use the internet Family History Catalog to see what microfilm resources, related to a place name or surname, are available through an LDS Family History Center. You might find microfilm reel numbers you could order for viewing at such an LDS Center. The URL for this is- www.familysearch.org/thlc/supermainframeset.asp?display=start. Another good reference for this sort of thing is The Source, A Guidebook of American Genealogy, Edited by Eakle & Cerny. It covers tracking immigrant origins in other counties. I am trying to prove that John AMERMAN (AMMERMAN) who was born 23 Dec 1813 in Pennsylvania and died 5 Apr 1872 in Huron was the son of Simom AMERMAN who was born in 1774 and died 12 Mar 1860. Both are buried in the Hester Cemetery, Bronson Township. In the history of Bronson Twp on this website the writer states that one of the early settlers was Simon in 1816 and that there were several AMERMAN children in the first school, one of them named John. My assumtion is that John is Simon's son but I have no proof. The history of Bronson Twp on this website does not indicate where the information came from. Any suggestions or help from anyone on this from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Ken Shute Lookup Results-- The references to Simon and John AMMERMAN in Bronson Township came from the History of the Fire Lands, by W. W. Williams, 1879. I re-checked this book and found no direct references to John as the son of Simon. However, Cemetery Inscription, 1870 Census Index, marriage, and IGI references all seem to fit together to strongly suggest that John is the son of Simon. I may be re-plowing a plowed field, but here is what I found- 1.Huron County, Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions, by HCC/OGS, 1997. Hester Cemetery, Bronson Township. Page 17, Row 12. 18 John AMMERMAN d. 5 Apr 1872 age 56y. 19 James AMMERMAN s/o J. & M. AMMERMAN, d. 12 Apr 1851 7y 1m 25d. And near by, same Row 12: 35 Simon AMERMAN d. 12 Mar 1860 age __y 4m 5d (bur. rec. says 12 Mar 1861 age 85y). Anna AMERMAN w/o Simon AMERMAN d. 7 Feb !851 age 71y 10m 20d (age 74 per burial record). 2. Huron County, Ohio Marriages, 1815-1900, by Scheuer Publications, 1992. John M. AMMERMAN m. Melissa HULL 5 Mar 1837. 3. 1870 Census Index, Huron County, Ohio. All AMMERMANS below were listed for census page 248A, Bronson Township. Read first name and place of birth. John, NY. Lewis, OH. Mark, OH. Mellissa, NY. Noting this John AMMERMAN was listed as born in NY, I went to the online IGI site (www.familysearch.com), set the search criteria for "United States" and "New York," plugged in the name John AMMERMAN, and found- Name- John Montfort AMERMAN. Birth- 23 Dec 1813. Reformed Dutch Church at the Awasco Outlet, Fleming, Cayuga, New York. Father- Simon AMERMAN. Mother- Ann VAN TYNE. While I could not find a Simon AMERMAN in New York, opening the search to all states brought up- Name- Simon AMERMAN Christening- Dec 1774. Birth- Conewago Dutch Reformed Church, Straban Twp, Adams, Pennsylvania. Father- Hendreck AMMERMAN. Mother- Jannettie Van ARSDALEN. Note- the IGI birth years above for John and Simon (1813 and 1774 respectively) are not that far off from the approximate birth years suggested in the Cemetery Inscriptions (1816 and 1776 respectively). The theme of the Dutch Reformed Church appears in both IGI cases for John and Simon, even though their birthplaces are in different states. Also, the middle initial "M" for John M. AMMERMAN in the marriage record, agrees with the middle name "Montfort" in the IGI record for John Montfort AMERMAN. Finally, the first name of the IGI mother of John ("Ann"), corresponds well with the first name of the mother in the cemetery inscription ("Anna").

Please allow me to ask a question for advice. Also, forgive me for being long winded for a simple question. It is obvious that Fredie Stewart HODGES who married Carrie SEATON is the Fred I'm looking for. The birth information I have --off the computer www.familysearch.org -- with the birth date of February 19, 1871, matches the birth date for the cemetery, 1871-1941. Yet the birth listing for Huron County says July 15, 1877. The computer birth information lists Jennie STEWART and Crandall L. HODGES as Fredie STEWART's parents, yet I can only find records of Crandall having married Sarah Ann VANGUILDER and Jennie ALLEN. In 1880, when Fred should have been nine or three, depending upon which source you look at, he should have been living with his father and mother, but neither Jennie nor Fredie were living with Crandall at the time. So, my question is, am I even on the right track? How do I find out if I am?

Ken Shute Lookup Results-- I rechecked my Birth Index, 1867-1908, and found I had made a mistake on Fredie HODGES birth date. It should be- Fredie STEWART HODGES b. 02/19/1871, Vol. 1, Page 51. Sorry. This corresponds with the IGI date and the Cemetery Inscription year. Why don't you write for a copy of this birth record from Probate Court, Huron County, Ohio, 2 E. Main St., Norwalk, OH 44857 and see what the names of the parents are on this record?. I don't have any immediate ideas on why Jennie STEWART vs. Jennie ALLEN is shown as the mother on Fredie STEWART HODGES' birth certificate. I rechecked marriage records, cemetery inscriptions, online IGI records, etc., but didn't find an explanation. Have you been in touch yet with Frances BEST LITKE who submitted queries to the Huoron County Kinlogist regarding the Crandall HODGES' family. Perhaps she might be able to give some insight on this question. In rechecking my publications, I did turn up a small nugget on Crandall HODGES that you might be interested in. In our Just Like Old Times, by Henry Timman, Book 6, page 73, in an article titled- "Horse theft was worse than child theft in 1869", dated May 20, 1988, there is mention of a special wedding that took place at the home of Crandall HODGES in Greenfield Township, south of Steuben. Henry notes that a triple wedding took place there on August 20, 1869 where all the brides were cousins, namely- Augusta L. HODGES, daughter of Crandall who married James F. BLISS of Greenfield; Lucinda M. HODGES, daughter of D.C. HODGES of Norwich Township, who married Charles J. REED of Warsaw, Indiana; and Jane E. CLEMENT of Peru Township, a daughter of a sister to Crandall and D.C. HODGES, who married Valorus P. BEST of Peru. Henry notes that the HODGES family descended from Josiah HODGES, an early resident in the Troy Mills area in the southwest corner of Peru Township. Henry also mentions at the end of the article that the genealogical story of the HODGES family is an interesting one and that he often uses it when giving genealogical talks, as an example of how a great deal of information can be found on a pioneer family that lived before vital records were kept.

Families I am researching in Huron Co. (and have some information on that I would be glad to share) are RONK, COOLEY, THOMPSON; FAUST, SCHROEDER, VANFOSSAN, ATEN, HORN. I myself am an ATEN-THOMPSON offspring. A genealogy of the BOEHLER family is in my possession. If anybody is searching for information on that family or their descendants I'd be happy to look it up. Currently I am at a standstill trying to trace the COOLEYs. The 1850 US census of OH shows Seth COOLY, age 50, Carpenter, [?] I, 600, (b.) Conn. Clarissa 46 Conn. Mary 21 Conn. William 9 Ohio Zelma 5 Ohio Zelma was b.31 Oct.1844 in Clarksfield Twp. and married Seneca RONK 1 Jan.1867. Mary married Dr. Platt W. FINCH. William may have been in the Civil War. The parents, Seth and Mary, I believe married in Glastonbury, CT, in 1824. I obtained a marriage certificate from Vital Statistics, which contained exactly the skimpy information I had sent them to get the certificate. Ah, well. My other search is for the Declaration of Intention and naturalization papers of Carl (Charles) Christian FAUST, who emigrated from Germany. I believe this is his record- FAUST, Wilhnie 55 F unknown GR000 , Jeanette 28 F unknown GR000 , Carl 17 M Farmer GR000 , Lina 5 F child GR000 GR000 indicates emigrants from Germany, village unknown. Ship- Atlantic, From- Bremen and Southampton, To- NY, Arr- 16 July 1867. Since the Carl FAUST who married Louise Emma HORN was a German immigrant, born in 1850 and with a sister named Jeanette who also immigrated (BOEHLER Genealogy), this seems likely to be the record of their journey to America. From BOEHLER Genealogy, p.II-3 " His relatives were from Mansfield and the second Mrs. J. Philip BOEHLER, Sr. [Jeanette] was related to him." If anybody has any resource that would help in tracking either of these lines, I would be most grateful for any help.

They practiced together for more than 30 years until both died in 1896. b. At first, James B. FORD of Lyme Township was one of several medical students in the office of Dr. Read. FORD was an Englishman by birth and 11 years younger than Dr. Read. c. James B. FORD attended the Academy at Milan; the Western Reserve College at Hudson; and Amherst College in Massachussetts. He completed his medical studies in 1857, and soon after he became a partner with his old instructor, Dr. Read. d. Dr. FORD married Cornelia COOK and established their home at 10 Benedict Ave. in Norwalk. e. Dr. Read married, as his second wife, Elizabeth COOK, a sister to Cornelia (COOK) FORD, the wife of Dr. James B. FORD. The COOK sisters had arrived in Norwalk as teachers with the Brainard Female Seminary, a Presbyterian Girls' School in a house at 114 W. Main Street. f. Drs. Read and FORD also speculated in real estate, and were the prime developers of streets named after them: Read Street and FORD Avenue. They built most of the houses on those streets, or moved them there.

There are a number of MACOMBERs annotated in the Cemetery Inscriptions. Would it possible to get the information on these people so we can add to our burial sites at www.macomberproject.com. Though we have 1,500 burial sites, we only have about 50 in Ohio and this would make an excellent addition. We will credit your organization of course.

If she died in 1879, I have a winner. Could you please let me know the dates of birth & death and any other info.

My wife has many ASHLEY relatives who moved from MA ca. 1817 to Greenfield and Peru Twp., Huron County where they were amongst the pioneer settlers. The daughter of James ASHLEY, the patriarch of the family, was Lucy (ASHLEY) PIERCE b.1771 Shutesbury, MA d. 1862 IL m.1792 Pelham MA to Alden PIERCE b. 1771 d.1849 IL. They were followed to Greenfield by Alden's bro.(?), John and Lucy's brothers, James, Luther and Wardon(Sp?). They were later followed by Leonard and Jarius. The ASHLEY sons, James the patriarch, and some of the PIERCEs are apparently buried in the church yard beside the Church of the Master in Steuben Cemetery, Greenfield Twp. Huron County, OH. James detoured through Upper Canada in the early 1800's and only arrived in Huron abt. 1824 and died in his daughter's house in Greenfield in 1828. If anyone is able, I would appreciate a lookup or a resource to investigate. If anyone is researching this branch of the ASHLEYs I would appreciate hearing from you.

Ken Shute Lookup Results-- I checked our Huron County, Ohio publications for any references to a Hanville Corners without success. However, I was able to find a HANVILLE family, at least three members of which operated saw mills in Ripley Township, and in North Fairfield. The references to this HANVILLE family came from our History of Huron County, Ohio, by A.J. Baughman, 1909. They are contained in biographical sketches for Adelbert Eugene HANVILLE (Vol. 2, Page 492), and George W. HANVILLE (Vol. 2, Page 505). Here is, more or less, a skeletonized descendency chart, with comments, from these two sketches- C.W. HANVILLE m. Mary Ann FOWLER. C.W. was b. 1826, Geneva, Cayuga Co., NY. Mary Ann was b. 1831 in PA. C.W. had a lumber and saw mill business in Ripley Twp. He later bought a sawmill north of North Fairfield which is now (as of about 1909) owned and operated by Adelbert HANVILLE. This latter mill was in operation for nearly 70 years, burned down in 1899, then re-built the same year and continued in operation since (till about 1909--the date of Baughman's book). C.W. and Mary Ann HANVILLE had the following children- Adelbert Eugene (b. 17 Apr 1851, Corning, NY); George W.; Charles P.; Delphene; Eva; and Ella. Adelbert HANVILLE m.1st. Ida E. TAYLOR 1 Sep 1872, and 2nd. Mary Ardella AYERS 31 Mar 1876. Ida E. TAYLOR HANVILLE d. 12 Oct 1875.The children of Adelbert and Mary Ardella are: Earl, b. 5 Feb 1880; Harry, b. 3 Jun 1882; Iva b. 21 Sep 1884; Nellie, b. 5 Sep 1887; Hattie, b. 21 Nov 1889; and Geneva, b. 11 Jul 1893. All survived (at least till 1909) except for Iva who d. 16 Aug 1907. George W. HANVILLE (b. 18 Oct 1852 in PA) m. Lucy Ann MAYNARD 25 Oct 1875. Lucy Ann was b. 8 Nov 1852. The children of George and Lucy Ann are- Arthur E.; William D.; George J.; and Lena B. George was described as a lumber merchant, a saw mill operator, and a farmer of 65 acres of land in Ripley Twp. Our Marriage Book shows Charles P. HANVILLE marrying Maud MUIR 19 Apr 1886. Finally, our 1870 Census Index for Huron County, Ohio, by HCC/OGS, 1999, shows the following HANVILLEs on census pages 269, and 268A for Fairfield Township. Read first name, age, and place of birth. HANVILLE, 269, Fairfield Twp. Charles P., 8, PA. Eva, 13, PA. HANVILLE, 268A, Fairfield Twp. C.W., 40, NY. Delbert E., 19, NY. (Presume this is Adelbert Eugene). Ella, 13, PA. Emma, 38, PA. Ken Shute Lookup Results-- Here is confirmation on the marriages you requested, from our Huron County, Ohio Marriages, 1815-1900, by Scheuer Publicactions, 1992. Martin D. RIGGS m. Maggie A. SEELEY 25 Dec 1879, Book 3, Page 185. William RIGGS m. Jennie E. SEALEY 15 Dec 1875, Book 2, Page 464. George RIGGS m. Mrs. Kate W. WILLS 5 May 1874, Book 2, Page 395. George RIGGS m. Lydia PERRY 5 Apr 1876, Book 2, Page 482. Notes-(1.) It appears that Martin, William, and George RIGGS are brothers, and that Maggie and Jennie SEELEY/SEALEY are sisters. See 1870 Census Index, and Baughman's History of Huron County, Ohio, below. (2.) I could find no firm evidence that the George RIGGS who married Mrs. Kate W. WILLS and Lydia PERRY is one and the same person. I could not find a cemetery inscription for a KATE RIGGS ca 1875, which might explain a second marriage of George, but I did find references to a Kate RIGGS in our 1880 Census Index, and in our Death Index, 1867-1908, which showed a Kate RIGGS died in 1906. If George is the same person in both marriages, perhaps he and Kate were divorced ca 1875??? You might write the Probate Court, Huron County Courthouse, 2 E. Main St., Norwalk, Ohio 44857 for copies of George's marriage records to see if they might carry information that would help settle this question. The composition of the SEELEY family, to which Margaret (Maggie) and Jennie belonged, is found in our 1870 Census Index for Huron County, Ohio, by HCC/OGS, 1999, and in our History of Huron County, by A.J. They had seven children-Jennie, wife of William RIGGS of Norwalk; Margaret, wife of Martin RIGGS of Townsend; Anna, who married Charles BOONE of Glenville, Ohio; Job W., of Milan; Marshall L. of Wakeman; Carrie, wife of Sidney Stoutenberg of Norwalk; and James E., subject of this biography. Perhaps they died there but I have no indication of that yet. If you could just check for those other names I would appreciate it. I found that Michael's wife Kinney died in Lucas County and I hope to track down her husband Michael perhaps through her obit or death record.

I am seeking dates of death, dates of birth/age at death, possibly evidence of Hannah's maiden name, and any other information available. According to the History of the Firelands, Samuel died in 1839. I believe he was born in Connecticut ca. 1772-1774 and lived in Vermont before migrating to Ohio. I don't have any information on his wife. I did find an index on the internet of Huron Co. Graves which gave Samuel DAY on p. 410 (2) and Hannah on p. 409-10.

I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to trace them any further back or get any details about their lives., and I felt their emigration from CT between 1829 and 1841 (1850 census: 21-yr old dau b.CT, 9-yr old son b.OH) was too late for them to have been Firelands refugees. I just found in the Cem. I agree completely that Wm.F in the 1870 census has to be the same as Wm.C. everyplace else. There weren't many COOLEYs in Clarksfield at that time. I think the Family consisted of Luther, Sr. and ? Davis, their son Seth & Clarissa, their children- Mary Anne(b.1845), Wm.(b.1841) and Zelma (mine). Mary Anne married Platt FINCH and I believe they had no children. Zelma I know about. Finding out so much about William & family is great and fills out the story a bit. I am not sure what significance to attach to the Plat Book of 1845 info about Luther. The Cem. Insc. book shows him as "d. 1 Jan 1842" but in the Plat Book of 1845 he's listed with 41.5 acres. Is it possible that upon his death the land had simply not been transferred to Seth, whom I hope to show was his son, or to his widow who was probably still living?

I'm researching the HARKNESS family of Huron Co. OH. In the First families Book there is a Abner HARKNESS Family Submitted by Judith HARKNESS DETTRE of Sparks, NV. I was told to go to the research center to take a look at her information that was submitted on this family. The names are in the index file, but could not find her ancestor charts in the book. Was not under the submitter name, nor under the surname. I would write the submitter, but to my understanding she just moved.

She was the daughter of Seth COOLEY and Clarrissa HOUSE. She married Platt W. FINCH 27 March 1853. Platt died in 1896. Clarrissa HOUSE is the daughter of Julius HOUSE Sr. and Percy Julius was born 30 Sep 1786 in Glastonbury, Conn. and died 9 Mar 1871 in Perkins Twp. Erie Ohio. Percy was born in 1785 and died 3 Feb 1827 Perkins. I have all the information on the HOUSE family if you are interested, let me know ([email protected]). My source besides the Court House in Sandusky was the Firelands Pioneer Vol. 17.

Ken Shute Look Up Results - I'm not sure of the reason for the apparent discrepancy between Luther's death date (1 Jan 1842) and his appearance as a landowner in the Plat Book of 1845, but I can offer some possibilities. First, in some cases in our indexes to these land ownership maps, it might show the name of the owner preceded by "Estate." This wasn't the case for Luther in our 1845 Plat Book, but perhaps it was inadvertently omitted. Second, the introduction to the Plat Book of 1845 starts out as follows- "Huron County Plat Book ca 1845. Commentary. Some time in the mid -1840s an unknown draftsman created this set of sectional maps for each of the twenty townships that then composed Huron County (Ruggles township was set off to Ashland County in 1846).." Perhaps, then, the land ownership information for Luther was acquired just before his death, but not updated in time for this publication ca 1845. I checked Luther's property (section 1, lot 23, Clarksville) in our 1873 Atlas, and found it was then owned by an E. Gridley. In the index to the 1873 Atlas, it shows the following COOLEYs owning land- S. COOLEY, Wakeman Township, page 17, section 4, lot 40. W.C. COOLEY, Clarksville Town, page 77, NE. There are no COOLEYs listed in the index to the 1891 Atlas.

The reference appears in Vol. 2, Page 195, in a biographical sketch on a Blasius SIMON who was born in Baden, Germany, 15 Mar 1833. His parents were Conrad and Mary Ann (KRIEVELER) SIMON. The family came to the U.S. in 1834 and settled in Peru Township, Huron County, Ohio. Kathryn was just seven years old when she came with her parents to Norwalk Township, Huron County, Ohio. The other children of Joseph and Mary Ann HILLS were- Helen, Frances, Mary and Jennie, all of whom are deceased (as of 1909); Tracy, also deceased; Fred; Joseph; and two who died in infancy. I have been searching for my great great grandmother's second husband who was Theodore P. BARBER. I have some information that he was born in East Townsend, Ohio November 28, 1840. I do not know his parent's name or anything else except he joined the 3rd Regiment, Co. B, Ohio Vol. Cavalry September 4, 1861. I have sent for his records from the National Archives but don't think it will list his parents. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I did find a lot of BARBERs listed in the Index of Cemetery Inscriptions but can't figure out his parents.

I am new to your list. I need a bit of help. I found a listing for: MCINERNEY, John R.,351 and Margaret F., 351 on the OHGENWEB for cemeteries. Would someone know what I can do to pursue this information? I am hoping that John is the father to my Michael MCENERNY. John was deceased by the time Michael and his mother reached Akron, OH. Mary is noted as widowed in the 1870 census for Akron. I am currently searching along the trail that they may have taken on their immigration from Canada. There is also a Kate MCENERNY who is the younger sister to Michael. Any assistance or suggestions are more than welcome.

I will be in Ohio and would like to try and visit the graves of my Gr-Grandparents Elizabeth (FURRER) & Nicholas MOSER. I have been stuck in reference to my MOSER Gr-Grandparents. I have documented their births, and the birth and death dates of their ancestors to the 1600s in Switzerland. I have documented Elizabeth (FURRER) & Nicholas MOSER, marriage in Bern, (Catholic church) also baptism records of all their children whom were born in Switzerland. More were born in Bellevue, OH. I found the passenger list showing their 1854 arrival in the US. The name is now MOSIER. Nicholas MOSIER. Here is where the problem starts. I have always been aware that there was a change in the spelling of the name. (MOSER to MOSIER) My Grandfather Nicholas Jr., born in 1839, he was the oldest child in this large family. Grandfather used the MOSER spelling, his siblings used MOSIER. My father often spoke of the disputes with his cousins over the spelling of the name. In the 1860 census of Bellevue, this census this family is listed as German. This is not correct. They did not speak English they spoke only German. They were all born in Switzerland. In this census Nicholas MOSIER & Elizabeth are listed with 6 of their 8 children. Nicholas is listed as a Mason, ( my father said his grandfather was a stone carver and that he worked on a catholic church in Bellevue) I don't think they ever owned a home. I'm guessing, but I think they most likely rented a house in the city of Bellevue. In the 1860 census there is a daughter, Mary, (14) with the family. Mary can also be found on a second listing of the 1860 census. Mary is with her brother John. They both spell their name MOSER and birth place is listed as Switzerland. In this second listing they are both working on the farm of Mr. Walter's, in York Twp. Mary now 15. (Her birthday was 3 July) is working as a domestic. Mary's brother, John, is working on the same farm as a farm laborer. (the above Mary is also known as Elizabeth Mary) My grandfather, Nicholas Jr., is not in the 1860 census with his family. Nicholas now almost 21, has left home, gone to New York City, NY and is working as a painter. He enlisted in the U. S. Army at NY in Dec. 1860. (before the civil war). He enlisted under the name Nicholas MOSER. My grandfather married after the war. My father, Edmund MOSER, the only boy, was born 1880 the youngest of 7 children. I have never found any trace of my Great Grandparents since the 1860 census. Never found them on the 1870 or 1880 census. On the OHHuron web page I have found some listing that my be my family. One list- MOSIER, Elizabeth and William p.479 (there is a William age 4 in the 1860 census), James A. p.865 (there is a James age 3 in 1860), John p.865, and Mary p.793 (there is a Mary listed as 6 years old in 1860). I also find a listing under MOSHER/MOSIER, William p.479 and MOSHER, Nicholas p.688. Can you help me with the name and location of the cemeteries where in I can find the above people? PS: I am the 7th of 9 children in my family born 1919 (81 years old). My Father 7th of 7 born 1880. Grandfather, Nicholas Jr., oldest of 9 born 1839. Gr-Grandfather, Nicholas Sr., born 1817.

I believe there's just a nominal charge. Go to the HCC/OGS home page and click on Courthouse for more details. Also, the Norwalk Public Library holds copies of marriage records before 1840. You can contact Debbie Orth who works at the Library to see if she can provide copies. Her email address is [email protected]. Again, if they can provide copies, I believe there's a small charge. Pam in California Look Up Results - There is a Theodore BARBER, age seven, listed in the 1850 census in Townsend Twp., stamped page 384, line 14. He is listed in dwelling house number 712, the household of Edward C. RIGGS. The second person listed is named Mary at age 33 born in Ohio. There are ten children listed, most with the last name of RIGGS and some with the last name of BARBER (all born in Ohio). I happen to know, since I am researching Edward C. RIGGS, that this is his second wife, Mary Jane BUCK. Since some of these minor children have the last name of BARBER, it seems highly likely that these are Mary Jane's children by her first husband. If so, which ever BARBER your Theodore's father was, he must have died before 1850 and since Edward married Mary Jane BUCK in Jan of 1846, he mush have died before 1846! Hope this is the right Theodore!

I've been looking for Henry "SAYERS" parents and and Henry himself before his 1851 marriage to Mary RIGGS to no avail. Can you please help me with the parents of Daniel GRUVER and his wife's maiden name? According to what I have he married Amanda E. abt. 1866 and she was born August 22, 1848 in Huron County, Ohio. She died April 03, 1899 and is buried in St. Jacob's cemetery, Seneca County, Ohio along with Daniel GRUVER born February 12, 1842 and died April 02, 1910 and buried in St. Jacob's Cemetery in Seneca County, Ohio, also. I had him as a son of Isaac Jacob GRUVER and Nancy RARICK, but that is completely wrong, I discovered today. But, he has to belong to some parents in Huron County, Ohio. Hope you can come up with something on this one.

Ken Shute Lookup Results-- I was unable to find any firm references, in either our Huron County or Seneca County resources, to the parentage of Daniel GRUVER, although I found a Daniel GROVER listed in the Seneca County, Ohio 1870 Census Index as follows- All GROVERs listed below are found on microfilm page # 245, Scipio Township- Margaret, Head of Household. Daniel, Head of Household. Adda. Jacob. However, I did find the bride of Daniel GRUVER in our Marriages of Seneca County, Ohio, 1841-1899, by Jean Seigley: Daniel GRUVER, age over 21, m. Amanda E. COFFMAN, age over 18, Apr. 7, 1870. Official- R. Wilcox, Min., Citation 6-596. If you could obtain a copy of this marriage record, perhaps it might shed some light on the parentage you are seeking.

My BARRETT family lived in New London Township, Huron Co, Ohio starting in about 1837. Could you look at your plat books and atlases for the following persons- Dyer BARRETT (BARRITT), d. 1850 Hutchins BARRETT (BARRITT), d. 1891 Eliada BARRETT (BARRITT) Ashley BARRETT, d. 1926 (he moved from the "farm" into New London later in life. He lived at 75 Park Ave in New London at time of death) Lewis BARRETT, d. 1929 (he lived at 24 third st. in New London) Ralph BARRETT, lived in New London until about 1902 I have a handdrawn map that my Grandfather Ralph BARRETT prepared. He indicated on the map that Dyer and his sons, Hutchins and Eliada BARRETT (BARRITT) lived about 4 miles from New London village in the early days. Later some of them moved to New London village. Dyer, Hutchins and Eliada all lived in the general direction of Day Cemetery. I guess that would be NE of New London? It looks like they are lived along the same road. My Great grandfather (Ashley) and grandfather (Ralph) were both born in the house that Hutchins lived in. Since my grandfather Ralph BARRETT was born in 1874, it is likely that Hutchins and/or Ashley will be shown in the atlas of 1873.
