Seeking info on Frederick Louis HARDT (3-18-1833 to 7-19-1895) and wife Charlotte KLEIN (11-18-1838 to 10-03-1901). Children: George Adam, William A., Mary Elizabeth, Frederick Louis Jr., Frank, Edward, Henry, and Burton William. George Adam was my great-grandfather. I have a marvellous photo of this family taken when all but Burton had entered early adulthood, and have dates for all offspring.

I'm looking for information concerning Allen M. CURRAN. He married E. H. SMITH in 1853 in Huron County. She died in Jul 1856 and he remarried Mary E. MOULTON in 1857. Also in Huron County. These were about the same names and dates of my great-great-grandfather Miller CURRAN. His first wife was Hannah Elizabeth SMITH and the second Mary E. ? We don't know her last name. My Miller CURRAN died at the Old Soldier Home in Sandusky and served with the Union in the Civil War. There is a Allen M. CURRAN who also lived, died and is buried there. He severd with Bco 101st OVI. We are trying to find out if the two men are the same. Miller CURRAN had two sons with his first wife, Jay and Harry Dwight CURRAN and two daughters with his second Nettie and Inez CURRAN. Inez later married a Frank RUHL.

I am looking for the parents of an Arthur J. SMITH, born 1811/1812 Monroe Co. Ohio.I have info from Columbus Ohio that states he was arrested for assault and battery in 1833. I have tried county records and they had a fire in 1867 that destroyed most of the birth/death records of that time period. I know Auther married a woman named Julia who was born in 1920 in Indiana. My dilemma is Arthur's parents names and their place of birth (and year). Thank you for any help.

I'm researching Martha SCOBY's family. The 1850 census shows them living in Ruggles Township by then a part of Ashland Twshp, before that time I believe it was Huron. The names of SCOBYs in household were: Morgan (blacksmith) 28, Sally A 27, Margaret 18, Charles 15, Martha 12, Harrison 11, Hellen 8, Jonathan 2, Frank T(?) 9/12. All these were listed as having been born in NY (however, other records of Martha state NJ) except for Frank who was born in OH. It would not seem that all the children belong to Morgan and Sally. I am not sure they were living in Ohio before Huron became Ashland due to Frank's birth information. Martha was married to Warren BAIRD (son of Josiah and Sarah BAIRD-listed in 1850 census Ashland county-Orange Twp-previously Richland Co.) at Ruggles Corner January 1852 or 1853. Does anyone have information on these SCOBYs?

Trying to prove or disprove Isaac GARNER, who died 1852 in Hartland Twp., Huron County, Ohio is the father of my gg-grandfather, John Thomas GARNER. John Thomas GARNER, born 13 March 1851 in Huron County, Ohio, states in his bio that his father died when he was an infant, his mother died in 1866. After the death of his mother he lived with his uncle, Dix RYAN, in Henry County, Illinois. Oddly enough, there is a Thomas RYAN who died in 1863 buried next to Isaac GARNER. Any leads on this family appreciated.

Request for historical lookup. Information about Alvira Mercy STARR TOMPKINS, my great grandmother and the ninth child of Cyrenius STARR, son of pioneer Epenetus STARR and Huldah HOWARD STARR. Alvira was born in Huron County in 1842 (I don't know the town or township). Cyrenius and his wife Eliza MCKELVY (MCKELVEY) died (1848) when my great grandmother Alvira Mercy STARR TOMPKINS was just six years old and she ended up in Chautauqua, New York, at age 19 and married my great grandfather Daniel D. TOMPKINS. I'm trying to piece together her upbringing and how she ended up in New York. If there are any historical records or newspapers available from that time period, could someone please lookup the STARR family movements.

Date posted: Saturday, August 7, 1999

My BURNS family came to Illinois and then went to Iowa. My g.g.grandfather was born in Ohio (William E.) His brother, John, although born in Md., also lived and married (Mary E.?) in Ohio before coming to Illinois. The 1820 Ohio census (Federal) shows a John C. BURNS of Huron Cty (Twnship NCT.) I'm trying to connect a John, (b. 1801) and William (b. 1814) to this John, hoping he might be the father or an uncle. I'm looking for any information on John, wife, siblings, children. I've recently come across a documented record of a George W. BURNS who was, undoubtedly, a nephew of William and John. He was born in Fitchville, Ohio on 11-15-1843. He went to Iowa where he worked in 1862. His parents were James and Lavina (MEAD) BURNS. I believe James and Lavina remained in Huron Cty. because George returned to Ohio (from Iowa) for two years, married Susan NEWTON in Fairfield and then went back to Iowa in 1872. George must have gone back to Ohio between 1869 and 1871. George is the first real clue I've found to the possible whereabouts of my BURNS family in Ohio. Other "family names" besides John and William were Robert C., John A. and David H. (John's sons). Although rumored to be of Scotch-Irish descent, I have no knowledge of any of my BURNS family being Catholic.

My grandfather, William Phillip KOENIG, is alleged to be the son of Frederick KOENIG and Sophia BECKER KOENIG. My grandfather died in 1946 when I was only 1 1/2 yrs old. My late grandmother and my still living mother never had proof of birth as original birth records from Albany, NY area were mostly destroyed by fires. I recently obtained the Social Security application for a Catherine SELKIRK, born in Norwalk, Ohio, April 9, 1895, listing Frederick and Sophia KOENIG as parents. Catherine never married that we are aware of, but took the name SELKIRK from an Uncle, or so the story goes. I am seeking any information about Frederick KOENIG, or Sophia BECKER KOENIG who at least lived in Norwalk, Ohio in 1895 when Catherine was born.

Date posted: Wednesday, August 11, 1999

In October 1996, a Joyce GODWARD posted a query concerning a Henry KOENIG. Reference the last query I posted concerning Frederick or Fredrick (Fred) KOENIG, who was living in Norwalk, Ohio in 1895 when a daughter Catherine was born. From a handwritten listing I have recently received that was prepared back in the 1950s, it appears as it Fred KOENIG had a brother, Theodore L. KOENIG, who by a third marriage had a daughter named Joyce. This daughter married a Thomas GODWARD. They had 3 daughters and a son, Ted. The next name on my handwritten list is Henry KOENIG. This name could either be a brother to the Joyce KOENIG GODWARD on my list, or an uncle. As the original query in October 1996 did not list an email address, I don't know if the GODWARD and Henry KOENIG on my list are tied to the 1996 query, but am posting this August 1999 query asking anyone who has information concerning the KOENIG or GODWARD name in the Huron County area to contact me.

This is a new tack on my John MILLER, b May 12 1782 died June 29 1860, buried Bellevue Cemetery. problem: In"A Chat with the old Folks" Bellevue Gazette, Abraham LEITER speaks of Samuel MILLER living in his old house. Could this have been Abraham LEITER's brother-in-law. I need to prove or disprove this. I have the marriages of MILLERs from 1833 -1839. This Samuel MILLER was born 1810 and according to Bellevue cemetery records was married to Sarah. If he came with his father in 1828 to Bellevue than he could have been married before 1833. In 1880 census he ran a Livery in Bellevue, Lyme Twp. Anyone out there know anything on this Samuel MILLER? I have more work to do on this. John MILLER had 3 males 20-30 living in his household in 1840 . I'd like to find them!

Tom Neel Look Up Results - Your inquiry from August or earlier was on the BARRETT family of New London, Huron County. I recently found a group sheet that I had thought of when you sent your message. It was drawn up by Larry Templeton of Mansfield OH who is related to several old New London families. I think some of this might be more theory, and I note that he has a question mark beside the last five, not being at all certain that they are children of Philander BARRETT: Philander BARRITT/BARRETT, b. 1771, d. 1814 Mendon, Ontario Co (now Monroe Co) NY; buried Mendon; wife Wealthy PARK, died Grand Haven, Ottawa Co MI. They supposedly had thirteen children, of those: 1. Miranda, m(1) Henry HOPKINS; they moved to Clarksfield by 1820, but he deserted the family; had at least three sons; m(2) 1834 Stephen WRIGHT. 2. Zelotus, b. 1798, d. 1876; m(1) 1821 Betsey SMITH who d. 1839; m(2) 1840 Mrs. Mary ROORBACK NEWKIRK, b. 1820, d. 1905. He was a pioneer settler of Clarksfield & New London, known as Peg Leg BARRETT. Barrett's Chapel, built in 1876, and named for him, still is an active church at the corner of Rt 60 North and Cook Road. 3. Wealthy, b. 1801, d. 1891; m. 1824 Simeon BLACKMAN, b. 1798, d. 1864; to Clarksfield in 1821. 4. Squire, b. 1806, d. 1874; m. 1827 Mrs. Rachel LEWIS SMITH, b. 1805, d. 1891, the widow of Clark Austin SMITH, b. 1797, d. 1826; they settled in Milan, Erie Co OH. 5. Lorenzo, b. 1811, d. 1878; m. Samantha MADISON, b. 1812; d. 1897; to Greenwich in 1835. 6. Augustus, b. 1813, d. 1886; m. 1840 Clarissa COCHRAN, b. 1814, d. 1890; to Clarksfield. ? 7. Dyer, b. 1793, d. 1850; m. Sarah ROBB, b. 1797, d. 1874; to New London 1835. ? 8. Philander, listed in Trumbull Twp., Ashtabula Co OH census in 1850. ? 9. Homer, m. Diadema TREAT, moved from Huron Co OH to Wisconsin in 1849. ? 10. Philanda, b. 1809, d. 1860; m. Henry CLAFLIN, b. 1801; d. 1862; lived Milan, Erie Co OH. ? 11. Corbin, b. 1806, d. 1896; m. I am looking for a Sophia who was in Norwalk in 1895 as she had a daughter born there then, and who was married to a Fred. Now I guess I need to establish additional evidence. Family story is that Fred may have remarried (possibly to an Ida) but then left home one day to buy a loaf of bread and never returned. My mother recalls going to Norwalk when she was young (late 1920's or early 1930's) with her father to visit the "stepgrandmother, The children were Charles, William and Catherine.

My Abraham WELLMAN family history states that they moved from Maine to Heartland Huron Ohio and in other places it says Shelby and Russia Ohio, mentioning Huron for both. They came to Ohio in 1828. Abraham's son Samuel was married to Rebeccah TYLER and their son was Chauncey Remington WELLMAN who married Angeline FULLER (daughter of Moses FULLER of this area). Samuel's daughter Rebecca married Joseph ROWE in 1841 (in Henrietta Lorain) but I believe that the ROWEs may have lived in Heartland at one time as well. May have been Joseph or Samuel ROWE/ROE (I believe Joseph but another source says that Joseph's father was Samuel). This is what I found on the WELLMANs in Eaton County Michigan History: In December, 1827, Samuel WELLMAN, accompanied by his wife and their five children, removed from the old Pine Tree state of Ohio (but should read Maine I think can anyone tell me where the Pine Tree state was?), and in the spring of the following year they took up their residence in Hartland,Huron County, that state. Mr. WELLMAN had considerable property and he became associated with a man named RANSOM in the purchase of twelve hundred acres of land, on which they erected a sawmill, while they also opened and conducted a general store. After the death of her husband Mrs. Wellman had to care for the property, and because of her lack of experience in business matters she lost a considerable portion of the property when a settlement was finally effected. After the death of her husband she sold the property in Huron County and removed to Lorain County.

Can anyone tell me anything about August A. ZELLER who married Dorothy BAHR on October 23, 1864 in Huron County? He has been a very difficult man to find. He lived all over Ohio, ending up in Toledo were they are both buried. I do not know where he was born or who is parents were. She came from Bad Durkheim, Germany and I have been there and found many generations of that family.
