Looking for information about the Richard White family. Richard appears to be my gr-gr-great grandfather who lived in New London prior to 14 Oct 1835 when the following heirs (listed below) signed land records as heirs of Richard, but unfortunately, the exact relationship is not given-thus some missing links. The land records show that Margaret White was given a widow's dower. Not known: Was she Richard's only wife? Need more information about birthplace, birthyear, date and place of marriage, death, etc. Heirs of Richard White who signed the land records beginning 1835: Name Place where land records were signed James and Caroline White New London Henry White New London Sardis and Betsey Pixley New London Hiram and Sally Knapp New London Isaac P. and Elisa Wilson New London Jacob and Eleanor (White) Wickham Mansfield, Wood Co, OH. According to the information in Pioneer Women on the Western Reserve, Sally White married Hiram Knapp, Irene White married John Wickham (but listed as Eleanor and Jacob on records shown above), and Elisa White married Isaac P. Wilson. The women came to New London in 1820 from Livingston, New York. Although Betsey White Pixley, (wife of Sardis) is not listed in Pioneer Women, she and Sardis are included in Dr. Week's History of Clarksfield Township. Caroline Munson White, my great-great grandmother, came to the area from Brighton, Monroe Co, NY in 1817 and married James White.(Caroline is also listed in Pioneer Women). Parents: Nathan and Abigail Dodge Munson. I have some old family letters that gives this information, but would like to have other proof that attest to this relationship. In addition to James and Caroline White, the following is information found about Richard's other heirs (in addition to Caroline Munson White) that is listed on the land records. Isaac P. and Elisa White Wilson: Isaac P. Wilson, son of James P. and Elizabeth Wilson, was one of the first merchants (in partnership with Persis Books)of New London. He sold out to Martin Merrifield in 1838. (New London Times: 07 Mar 1895). The family moved to St. Joseph County, MI in the 1840's where he was Justice of the Peace in Fawn River. Listed in the 1850 Census is Isaack P. Wilson, age 35, and Elisa, age 33. Birthplace for both is NY. Children: Ashur, age 10, Deba, age 7 and Halmington, age 5. (Children were all born in OH). Reportedly Isaac lived in Illinois after 1850 and died c1900 in that state. Does anybody have any other information about this family? If someone knows where and when Isaac died in Illinois, perhaps an obituary or other records might be found. Hiram and Sally White Knapp: Hiram was born c1810, probably in CT. Second of 7 children of John S. and Mindwell Knapp. After his father's death, Mindwell, (his mother) married Simeon Hoyt. Sally and Hiram are living in Clarksfield Twp in 1850 and in New London in 1860 where they operate a tavern. They are retired in 1870-still living in New London. Their 30 year old single daughter is living with them. Her occupation is milliner. Reportedly they died in New London, but no burial records have been found. A son and a daughter are buried in Grove Street Cemetery. Henry White: Reportedly a Henry White married and moved to Indiana and died before 1850. Need more information about him. The late Paula Porter Griffin was related to me on the Munson side, may also be related on the White side. Believe she had a publication about an ancestor, Daniel White, of Pomfret, CT. Does anyone have any clues or connecting links about where I could (or should) search in going back on the White side?

We are looking for descendants of a subject who had built, in 1906, the large home we currently reside in and use as a bed and breakfast located at 123 W. Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. William H. Merritt (dentist) married Mary Ford (died 1944) and they had two children: William Ford Merritt and Cornela Cook Merritt (believed married Frederick F. Williams). At the time of Mary Merritt's death in 1944, the two children (William and Cornela Merritt Williams) may have lived in Cleveland. Our goal is to locate direct descendants of William H, and Mary for the purpose of obtaining more information on the family and hopefully copy any photos that they may have of the family and the home.

I am looking for some information on Hannah-Athalia SMITH. b. March 9, 1854 or 1855 in North Fairfield. She is the daughter of Walter-Branch SMITH b. 8/1/1814 and Cynthia Coborn b. 8/17/ 1825. Hannah married Edward Henry Hughes in Chicago in 1887 and returned to the Olena area. They had two children Richard and Cynthia Katie Hughes (my maternal grandmother). Here's the catch. Edward died and Hannah SMITH Hughes remarried David B. Summerlin and supposedly changed her name to Carrie. So everyone in the family knows her as Carrie Summerlin. I am wondering how to find out if Carrie Summerlin is really Hannah-Athalia SMITH Hughes Summerlin. Confused yet? She supposedly died in Norwalk 12/8/1937. I don't know if the record will show Hannah Summerlin or Carrie Summerlin.

Could you tell me where I can find information on my gg-grandfather Harrison Allen's Civil War records? All I know at this time is he was mustered out on July 6,1864. I think he was in Co.E,7th Reg.OVI. Also, is there anywhere I can find a list of Civil War soldiers from Huron Cty. that were prisoners at Andersonville? I was told Harrison may have been there, but these stories do have a way of growing over the years. I really would like to know for sure though.

For some time now I've been trying to find the parents and siblings of my G-Grandmother, Elmira LOVE SMITH, in Hamilton Co OH, since her sister's obit said she was born in New Haven OH, which I took to mean the village in Hamilton Co. Recently got info that the New Haven is probably the Huron Co Twp by that name. Been looking in the wrong end of the state! Let's see if these folks connect with anyone's family: Elmira's death cert lists her birthplace as Ohio, 1832, father as Rufus LOVE, b NJ; mother Clarisa A. BOWERS, b America (1880 Miami Co OH census includes Elmira and lists mother's birthplace as Long Island, NY). Her sister, Mary Elizabeth PARK(E) was the informant on the death. Elmira married Jared SMITH, in Monroe Co MI in 1848, had 8 children in various places in W. OH between 1851 and 1875, died in Piqua, Miami Co OH in 1912. Jared was injured during the Civil War and died at the Soldiers' Home in Dayton OH in 1881 and is buried in the National Cemetery in Dayton. Mary Elizabeth was born in New Haven abt 1829. Her first husband, details unknown, died of injuries received in the CW, although it's not known when. She next married George W. PARK, who died in 1875 in Miami Co. Her daughter, Lilly M., was born in 1868, which husband was the father not known. Mary died in Piqua in 1929 a few months short of 100 years old. Both were in Piqua before 1879. Rufus LOVE, with 4 children, is in the 1830 OH census in New Haven Twp, Huron Co, page 389. In 1840 he is in Norwalk Twp, Huron Co, Page 442, with 6 children. He is not listed after 1840. Ring any bells out there?

Jonathan married Phebe TIFFANY in 1807 in Chenango Co., NY. Both Jonathan and Phebe was probably born in the 1780's. He prob. in CT; she in MA. Phebe was related to the TIFFANYs of jewelry fame.
