My g-g-grandfather, Jerome TIMMINS, came to Norwalk in the early 1850s from Co. Cavan, Ireland. It is said that he worked for the City of Norwalk. (Not sure if that was assistant to the Mayor or street cleaner!). He did, however, raise enough money in a very short time frame to bring over his growing family. In 1962 or so he had enough money to buy a large farm in Deerfield, MI. He died there, but I'd like to learn of his 10-12 years in Huron Co. Thanks!

I hope someone will be able to give me a hand with the following: My ancestor, Hiram ALLEN, migrated to Huron Co, OH from Tompkins Co, NY in the early to mid 1830's, perhaps with other family members. I am interested particularly in early ALLEN burials and estates in Huron County. A Nicholas ALLEN family is listed in cemetery index - any chance they are an early one? This is an important given name in the ALLEN family, so I have my fingers crossed. Also the biography of Asher COLE (Hiram Allen's nephew) indicated that he and his wife had adopted a six year old boy in 1880, Orrill ALLEN, a distant relative. Assuming his family was from Huron Co, any hints in the cemetery records of who his parents might be? Any help on this line is greatly appreciated.

I had another person send me the Tuttle Book entry which confuses the issue...It lists her as Sarah TUTTLE... Married to the son or brother of Daniel TUTTLE. Now how am I to take that? Did a Tuttle marry a Tuttle? This is the reason I asked the question but maybe should have explained it more clearly. The lady who sent it is looking into Sarah's marriage record for me and that may help as I don't even know the town in which she was married (all I have is 9 Oct 1814 Cuyahogo Co., OH. ) I forgot to mention the Sarah TUTTLE marriage date was for Seth BROWN, my ggg grandfather. It said in the Tuttle Book entry the following: Sarah TUTTLE b. probably ca. 1780's perhaps named also Maria; 1813 widow of Monroe, MI m(1) probably a brother or son of Daniel ca 1768; m(2) 9 Oct 1814 Cuyahoga County Ohio (Vital record) Seth BROWN teamster War of 1812. They settled in Monroeville, OH.

My gggg-grandfather David COLE (wife, Hannah PARKER) owned Lot 16, Sec. 3, Bronson Twp., Huron Co., Ohio, in 1817 and in 1830 transferred ownership to his son Edward. In 1817 my ancestor's family would have consisted of son Hylas B., 15; Edward Payne, 10; Carthaette (Etta), 8; Cordelia D. and Arvilla, ages unknown. Hylas died in a tree-felling accident in 1825; Edward married Sally DILLINGHAM, d/o John DILLINGHAM, in 1829; Carthaette married Daniel OSBORN (Firelander) in 1832; and Arvilla married Alvah LAWRENCE in 1839. Edward P. and John DILLINGHAM and their spouses and families moved to Porter Co., Indiana, in 1835/6. John Conger COLE, s/o Edward, returned to Huron Co., (or wherever Daniel OSBORN was living in 1856) and married his first cousin Mary Arvilla OSBORN and took her back to Porter Co., Indiana. Her parents and siblings followed in 1858. Supposedly, David had two brothers living close by, Bethuel and Attrusha (or could it be Aarron?) who moved to the area later. Everyone in this family could read and write. Carthaette taught school at age 15/16 and her cousin Mary Arvilla OSBORN attended Berlin Heights Seminary (?) This is virtually all I know of my family while in Huron Co. I would greatly love to know more, and I would love to know how close the Asa/Asher, etc., Cole families lived to my family in Bronson Twp. I get the impression from the county histories that it wasn't very far at all. I have good confidence that my ancestors descended from James COLE of Plymouth, Mass., as documented by E. B. COLE in his book. Asher, Miner, and the others, perhaps excepting Asa, apparently did not descend from James. As prominent as these latter Coles were, surely someone must have or is researching them.

Am looking for information on my ggggrandparents Cyrus S. STEVENS and Gertrude KOON [?KUHN] STEVENS. Cyrus was probably born in CT, Gertrude in Bavaria. They were married 9 Nov 1841 in Wakeman, Huron County, OH. This marriage was confirmed by the clerk of the probate court in Huron County - I have a copy. Their first son, George, was born 2 March 1841 [records say this - it may have predated the parents' marriage??? - who knows], in Huron County, OH. . Other children were born in OH - Charles Stevens, 1844, Elizabeth Ann Stevens 1846, and John Beebe Stevens 12 June 1852. Their next child Susan Irene Stevens was born in Michigan 1854; the 6th and 7th children, Samuel b 1857 and Henry b 1858 were also born in MI. Their last child Isabelle was born in Illinois. George was my gggrandfather. The family was in Sangamon County, IL by 26 Feb 1867 [and probably 1862 when Isabelle was born] as George and Nancy Catherine GRIFFITTS were married in Springfield, IL. I do now know how long Cyrus S. Stevens was in OH; family history has him in New York prior to being in OH. All I know about Cyrus is that his father's name was Moses Stevens. There are several Moses Stevens listed in censuses that might be he; also have found land records in MI and WI that could have been he. I am only assuming that Cyrus came as a child to OH since he was married at 21.. Any help is appreciated. I have a family history that is very well documented from Cyrus on down but only anecdotal info on the earlier members of the Stevens family. I am only assuming that the spelling has always been Stevens [on Cyrus & Gertrude's marriage license the spelling for both Cyrus and Moses was "Stevens"]. About Gertrude KOONE [apparent spelling on the license but I would be willing to bet the real spelling was KUHY as she was Bavarian] I know nothing other than her birth date of 1822.

I'm curious as to what the relationship was that prompted him to become her guardian.

All of these pictures are unidentified, and I'd like to ask your help in making identifications. The photographs were in 2 albums, frames and boxes in the possession of the daughter of Milton Huston GARNER and Mary Elizabeth KYLER. The GARNER family was from, originally, Germany, then Frederick County, Maryland, and finally Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. They descend from John Michael GARNER and Catharine SEISS. They are not listed in the Cemetery Index Book for Huron Co. Is there anyway to check the North Fairfield records for that time period? Obviously the gravestone has disappeared over the years or perhaps there never was one but would like to know where they are buried.

Suspect the REED family came from Ontario Co. NY, but have no proof. Israel REED, my ancestor, served in the War of 1812. His pension claim lists his wife as Azubah POWERS. 1850 census in Ripley Twp., Huron Co., places his age at 55, b. NY, and her at 56, b. Vermont. Israel and Azubah had at least two children at that time, Judah and Elizabeth. Judah REED married Caroline HUNT, who may be the same woman listed with the PIXLEY family in 1850. Uncertain as to her parents. Only HUNTs in Huron Co. at that time are Stephan HUNT, age 46, b. NY; wife Holdah, age 39, b.
