Is anyone researching the surname DEBOW? The Huron Co OH Marriages shows Lucinda DEBOW married Charles BLACKMAN 29 June 1862. I'm trying to figure out if this is my Charles BLACKMAN who married previously Lovina PRICE in 1845. She died in 1850 and according to F.E. Weeks' book, Charles left OH and later died in Nebraska. I don't know how accurate the book is, but I've turned the state of Nebraska upside down and absolutely can't find him! Perhaps he returned to Ohio and married DEBOW? Maybe more descendants?

I would like to add LYON to my list of ancestors that I am researching. I am hoping that Della A. LYON, who married Theodore REA December 11, 1878 in Norwalk, will lead me to finding out just who Theodore REA was. Theodore REA and William TIMBS are listed in the 1880 census as being on the same property in Wakeman. William TIMBS married Olive Jane REA, and I am trying to find the connection between Olive and Theodore with William thrown in there. I know why William married Olive Jane, but who is Theodore in the grand scheme of things?

I have researched my Benjamin BURPEE (and his wife Elizabeth) in Michigan back to 1850 on the census records. They had two children born in Ohio. Elizabeth FORD married Benjamin BURPEE in Huron County on April 6, 1845. Her father is George FORD. They all moved to Kalamazoo County, Michigan around 1850, and I have the information I need from that point forward. What I am interested in trying to find is additional information in Huron County. I do not know the names of Benjamin BURPEE's parents. He is also listed on the census as being born in Ohio. Perhaps Huron County? There are also Daniel BURPEE and Otis BURPEE in Michigan that were listed as being born in Ohio. They are the same general age as Benjamin. My question is this. I know the FORDs are from Huron County. Is there any record of BURPEE also being in Huron County? Specifically, I am looking for the parents of Benjamin BURPEE and any siblings he may have had. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Am wondering if anyone has any information on the CHAMBERS family from Ridgeville, Elyria, Cleveland, West View, Grafton and Sheffield? I have a newspaper picture and short article that is entitled "Fifty Five Chambers Relatives Gather to Renew Old Associations". There is not a date on the article. This was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas CHAMBERS in Ridgeville. The oldest member of the family present was Mr. Richard CHAMBERS aged 87 of Eaton. The youngest was Frank CLARK Jr. 7 months old. This is a very old picture!

For any BLACKMAN researcher: be sure to research the name BLAKEMAN too . Desc.'s of John BLACKMAN of Dorchester Mass in the 1630's always used the name BLACKMAN but the desc's of Rev. Adam BLAKEMAN / BLACKMAN used both names Blackman & Blakeman. Look for naming patterns and marriages when researching the two. Desc. of Rev. Adam BLAKEMAN are: Zachariah /Blakeman Blackman( 3rd gen) m. a Elizabeth DENMAN 1704. Desc. from both lines settled in Erie Co. & Huron Co. Ohio. The Joel BLACKMAN buried in Huron Co. is from the John BLACKMAN line. Joel BLAKEMAN d 1850 buried in Huron Co. is from Rev. Adam BLAKEMAN line.

One of my 3 x great grandfathers Edmund ELMES came from Ashton, Northants, England from where James and Rebecca ELMES emigrated to Wakeman and Townsend, Ohio around 1882. It is likely that James was Edmund's nephew. I'd love to make contact with anyone researching this family. I am especially interested in learning more about a museum (in Wakeman?) of Ashton and Elmes relics that was referred to in a book written in the 1950s.

I would like to know if there is an 1870 Census Index. I am looking for: Johnston REA and William TIMBS. I obtained the 1880 Census and found that Johnston REA was living with Edward REA (at the age of 90) and next door to William TIMBS. I would like to know where Johnston REA was prior to moving in with his son (and next door to his daughter). The 1880 Census showed that Johnston was born in Ireland with his parents being from Scotland. I have a feeling that Johnston was in Pennsylvania prior to moving to Ohio (there are a lot of REA's in Penn.).

I would appreciate it if those of you with books on Huron Co. would see if you have anything on my ancestors who lived in Huron Co. for awhile. Henry and Hannah (UNDERHILL) TAYLOR were in Ohio as early as 1838 as two children were born in Ohio. Those children were: John TAYLOR born circa 1838 and Emily TAYLOR born 1840. In the 1850 census, Henry and Hannah TAYLOR, along with their children, Gilbert Hiram TAYLOR, Caroline L. TAYLOR, Jay L. TAYLOR, John TAYLOR, and Emily TAYLOR, were living in New London Township, Huron Co., Ohio. Also found in the 1850 census living in Clarksfield, Huron Co., Ohio is their son, William H. TAYLOR, born in 1826 in New York, and his wife Eunice (DAY) TAYLOR born circa 1826 in Vermont. I know that William and Eunice were married 8 Jan 1850 in Huron Co. I would like to find the marriages of the other TAYLOR children mentioned above. I would also like to know if Eunice DAY was >from Huron Co. and who her parents and siblings were. I have been in touch with some DAY researchers, but I haven't been able to find out for sure who her family was.

I am looking for information on Daniel INGERSOL who married Elizabeth "Betsy" SCRAM / SCHRAM in Huron Co. on 28 Jan. 1857. They had a child in 1863, reportedly in Monroeville, but I can't find them on the 1860 Ohio Census. Daniel must have died young because by 1880, Betsy is married to Charles MEAD. Her marriage to Mead gives her name at that time as Elizabeth HENDERSHOT. So she was married to Hendershot after Daniel. That marriage hasn't been found. I have checked the Huron Co. Cemetery book for Daniel INGERSOL, but didn't find him. If anyone is working on the INGERSOL name in Huron Co., I would sure appreciate any clues you might have to Daniel's birth, death, parents, etc.

Date posted: Wednesday, May 20, 1998

With great trepidation I set forth the name LEMMON. The particular group that I'm looking at moved from New York to Sandusky County in 1827, and drifted out from there. This was a large extended family, and I'm seeking to gather as many of them into the fold as I can. This is a labor of love for my mother-in-law who will be 80 this August. I have a great deal on her direct line, but not a lot on any "cousins" that may be out there. She was born a LEMMON and is the granddaughter of Rev. Charles Harvey LEMMON who rode the Flat Rock Circuit for the United Brethren Church in the late 1870's early 1880's. I would be very pleased to hear anything- good or bad since scoundrels are always interesting on the LEMMON/LEMON line. I will be more than happy to pass on what I have gathered so far.

I have been sent the tombstone information. Would love to have pictures or rubbings. Any information would be appreciated.

All I found was in our Huron County, Ohio Marriages, Compiled and Published by Scheuer Publications, Warsaw, IN, 1992. Namely, John A. VANGIESON m. Harriet RATHBUN 8 Nov 1849. Richard A. VANGIESON m. Charlotte E. MERRILL 20 May 1852. Sabra C. RATHBUN m. Amasa C. ALLEN 4 Jul 1840. Charles H. RATHBUN m. Clarissa SMITH 22 Apr 1839. The fact that I could find no references to VAN_GEISON (or variations) in our other Huron County publications such as Cemetery Inscriptions; Atlases of 1845, 1873 and 1891; History of the Firelands, 1880 Census Index, etc., suggests that the family may have moved from Huron County at an early period sometime after, say, 1849.
