Message: Very impressive site, I don't see any connection at present, but that's because we have no specific site in Germany to look, except for Pommeraina. My husband's grandfather(Karl Hildebrandt) came from there in the 1880's with his wife(Johanna Walters), children, mother(Albertine Zieloff), and a sister(Bertha), to Marathon County, Wisconsin. They were following his wife's brothers, one of which was Bernard Walters. Johanna died in 1886 and Karl(Carl) remarried Alvina Dordel in Waupaca-Shawano Co. area, and raised a 2nd family. Consequently, with about 8 sons born to him, there a lot of Hildebrandts in the central and northeastern parts of Wisconsin. My father-in-law said that his father(Carl) would send money back to Germany for the support of a sister that stayed there, but I don't have any more info on that. I'll book-mark this site in case I have any sucess in tracing this family to Germany.

Message: Enjoyed a short wander though your website. I've been searching for my elusive Hildebrandt ancestors for awhile now, though admittedly, don't have as much time as I'd like to do so. We believe the correct original spelling for our name was Hildebrandt. My father's great grandfather was one Heinrich Hildebrandt who came to the US in about 1845 with his wife (possibly named Ana) and son, Herman. I'm told that there may have been some other brothers or relatives that came over about the same time. Heinrich is supposed to have sailed out of Bremen or Bremerhaven and landed in Philadelphia. I don't have any hard facts on any of that - it was only passed down by word of mouth through the generations. Anyway, he wound up around Mobile, Alabama. It is reported that he was very civically active in a small town near there called Toulemanville and that he, in fact, planted the trees that still stand along the highway there. His wife died some time later and he returned to Germany, remarried and came back to Mobile where he had another son, Charles Hildebrandt. I don't know the second wife's name. Anyway, I have a lot of work to do and not a lot of experience. But if I find a link, I will surely let you know. Your website has given me at least some insight into the area they might have come from. If you know of anyone in your line by any of the above names, do let me know. Thanks!
