June 2, 2002: National Brobst Family Reunion

This message brings you more details on the 2002 National Brobst Family
Reunion to be held in central Ohio on September 7, 2002.

The Reunion will be held at Jackson Lake Park, a private park and
campground in Canal Winchester, Ohio, about 20 miles southeast of
Columbus, Ohio. You can find out a lot about Jackson Lake Park by going
to http://www.jacksonlakepark.com on the internet. Their website gives
details about what's available (e.g., swimming, fishing, boating) and
includes driving instructions.

A picnic meal will be served at a modest cost which will include the
entrance fee to the park.

Art Holmes will give a 20 minute talk on the Registry's on-line data
base. I will give a 20-minute talk on the confusion between the two
immigrants Johann Michael Probst and Johann Michael Propst. We'll have
pictures of my trip to Kandel and Minfeld, Germany, and to Oberseebach,
Alsace, France, from whence our immigrant ancestors came. We're working
up a few other presentations, too.

We'll have our computer on-line data base right there at the Park so you
can look up your ancestry and get a printout of your ancestor tree, all
at no charge.

It's going to be a lot of fun, and we all look forward to meeting new
cousins.

The rest of this E-Mail is for those Brobsts and Brobst descendants who
haven't yet sent in their survey form letting us know whether you intend
to come or not. If you've already sent in the form, or called in with
the information, then you can just ignore what follows. If you haven't,
then all this is a reminder to let us know your plans. We know that
it's still early in the summer to make plans for the fall, but please do
your best so that we can plan well for the reunion.

Thanks.

Bill

Wonderful news! After a hiatus of several years, there will be a
National Brobst/Probst Family Reunion this fall. The date is September
7, 2002. Mark your calendars now!! The last major Brobst Family
Reunion was in New Tripoli, PA, in 1998. The location this year will be
in "Brobstland" — just 30 miles southeast of Columbus, Ohio, near Marcy
and Lithopolis where Brobsts settled in the early 1800s. The Reunion
will be held at Jackson Lake Park, a private park and campground in
Canal Winchester, Ohio, about 20 miles southeast of Columbus, Ohio. You
can find out a lot about Jackson Lake Park by going to
http:\\www.jacksonlakepark.com on the internet. Their website gives
details about what's available (e.g., swimming, fishing, boating) and
includes driving instructions. A picnic meal will be served at a modest
cost (reserved ahead of time) which will include the entrance fee to the
park.

The Reunion is open to any and all descendants (and spouses) of the two
immigrant brothers Philipp Jacob Probst and Johann Michael Probst who
immigrated in Philadelphia in 1732. Please pass on the word about the
reunion to your family members and relatives who might not receive this
notice; even if you can't make it, they might be able to!

The reunions really are a lot of fun. Lots of family history displays,
photos, and genealogical information; bring your own to share. Meet new
cousins. Visits to local sites of Brobst historical interest, including
the Brobst's Marcy Store, Brobst Church, and the Brobst Cemetery.
We'll have the entire Brobst/Probst data base there in our laptop
computers; we can print out your own ancestor tree or make data base
corrections and additions on the spot! If you haven't found yourself
yet in the Brobst Registry website data base, just go to the
worldconnect URL shown above.

The Reunion Manager is Jim (James Ernest) Brobst of Columbus, Ohio, a
descendant of Johannes F. Brobst (1750-1792) and Anna Maria Barbara
Stambach (1748-1829) of Berks and Lehigh Counties, PA. (My ancestors,
too, through Obadiah Brobst.) Johannes' son Johan Jacob married
Catharina Glück and moved to Marcy, in Fairfield and Pickaway Counties,
30 miles SE of Columbus, Ohio. You can find Jim (and probably yourself)
in the Brobst Registry on-line data base at the worldconnect URL below.
Jim has a lot of experience putting on affairs such as this.

Jim's brother, Bill (William Leander) Brobst of Germantown, Maryland, is
acting as the Reunion's primary point of contact and the central
attendance sign-up person. Send Bill your survey forms (by e-mail or
Postal Service); he'll keep track of who and how many people will be
coming. Contact Bill at 21507 San Garden Court, Germantown, MD 20876.
301-515-9933 h, 240-447-8738 cell. E-mail: [email protected]

Jim and his wife Kathleen are experienced in putting on such affairs,
and so we're looking forward to a well-organized and fun time. Current
plans are for a catered early afternoon picnic dinner; reasonably
priced, of course (and paid for in advance), and with lots of other
activities for children and adults. If you think you'd be interested in
attending the reunion, please let Bill (William Leander) Brobst know as
soon as possible and definitely prior to June 15 so we can get an idea
of how many people to plan for. You can use the survey form attached to
this letter, or just send the information by e-mail, whether you think
you can make it or not. If you say you can or might be able to make it,
we'll put you on the mailing list for further details about the
reunion. Please let him know, one way or the other.

Further details will be also be posted on the two Rootsweb mailing lists
(Brobst and Probst) and on the several Brobst/Probst message boards
(addresses below). If you're not already signed up on the special
Brobst mailing list, now would be a good time to do so; details below.

We're looking for volunteers, especially from the Ohio area, to give Jim
and Kathleen a hand in the local arrangements. If you can help in any
way at all, please contact Jim to let him know. Also, if you have any
ideas on what you would like to do or see at the Reunion, let Jim know.
You can reach Jim at:
3167 Morningside Dr., Columbus, OH 43202
614-595-2642 w; 614-263-5159 h E-mail:
[email protected]

We also have our own Brobst Registry mailing list board on the internet
on which you can sign up and receive occasional notices of Brobst news
items, reunions, interesting findings, etc. It's free! Just visit the
Brobst Registry webpage (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~brobst/), click
onto "mailing list", and follow the directions. Basically, to sign up,
just send an E-Mail with just a subject and no message at all, including
no signature text. That's all there is to it. No charge, no
obligation. Just a chance to easily pass information back and forth
with other Brobst descendants.

We look forward to seeing you in Ohio in September!! And please
remember to RSVP quickly.

Excitedly,

Bill
