Brobst Genealogy News
The Brobst Genealogy News has often included stories and information about
the Jerusalem Red Church, which was built by our Brobst and Kistler ancestors.
Floyd Kistler, caretaker of the church for over 46 years, was instrumental in
the 250th anniversary celebration running smoothly.
This summer, Floyd Kistler discovered the foundation of the original church,
built in 1747. This foundation is now marked by a granite memorial and is
located just off Wessnerville Road, not far from the present church. The
original log church was erected in 1747, a second church was used from 1792 to
1852. The cornerstone for the third and present church was laid in 1852, and
according to church records the church and the bell cost $5,777.23. The church
was thoroughly remodeled in 1911 and 1912.
The 250th celebration included a full day of events. The church was filled
beyond capacity for the service, and the dinner following that service was
completely sold out.
The 1998 Brobst/Kistler Reunion will be June 6th, at New Tripoli, Lynn
Township, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania.
