CHAPTER SIX
Miscellaneous Documents Pertaining to the Townland of Carnaveagh,
County Monaghan, Ireland
(Part I)
The documents in chapters six and seven have been placed chronologically to the best of my ability. Each document will be transcribed individually with question marks indicating letters or words which could not be read due to the quality of the original document. Further, I have noted original document pagination in brackets [ex{2}] as it occurs. Image copies of the original documents will conclude each chapter.

Expense Record 6/1:
The original document appears to be written on a page torn from an account ledger book. It measures 8” x 10”; folded in quarters, as it was, then measuring 4” x 5”. The main part of the document is written on one side of the paper only; the outer cover bears the following: “Furnished Aug 28th 49.
Amount of money advanced to obtain possession of
John Daily’s [sic] farm
Expense Record 6/2:
This document also appears to be written on a page torn from an account ledger book. It measures 8" x 10" and is written on both sides. The handwriting on the first page is cramped, but clearly legible; the ink is only minimally faded. On the reverse side, the handwriting in ink is legible; there is a penciled notation that will be rendered in red type within this manuscript. The document is very lightly soiled; the paper has no watermark.

Expense Record 6/3:
The original document is a piece of lined foolscap measuring 12” x 14½”. The handwriting is very legible; the ink appears sepia-like. The paper is barely soiled; no watermark is observed. The document is written on four sides of the paper when half-folded. A penciled notation is observed on page four that will be rendered in red type within this manuscript. The accounts in this document cover the time period from December 1847 through January 1853.
As in previous documents, I will note the original pagination, [ex.{2}].
Note of explanation: Although it is not marked on the original document, it is understood that the valuations are given in the following order: pounds-shillings-pence.
