Monumental Inscriptions

For the county of Dumfrieshire, Scotland

Submitted by Sheila I Hale 236/240

There are hundreds of Beatties (90 % spelt this way) in the Monumental Inscriptions for the county of Dumfrieshire. These were complied by George Gilchrist’s in the 1960's and 70's. These are available on three films through the LDS church. There are very few Inscriptions available for the post 1855 era though he did include some if this helped to tie together families. He did not transcribe every parish in Dumfries.

I have extracted the inscriptions from all parishes for those Beattie's who died in places other than Dumfries. . I have extracted all the Beattie's et al from all parishes

LDS Film 0918946
Annan, Applegarth & Sibbaldbie, Brydekirk, Caerlaverock, Cummertrees, Castleton (Roxburgh), Canonbie, Dryfesdale, Dalton, Dornock, Ewes, Eskdalemuir, Gretna and Hoddam.

LDS Film 0918947

Langholm, Mouswald, Moffat, Half Morton, Morton, Middlebie, Ruthwell, St.Mungo, and Stapleton (Cumberland).

LDS Film 0918948
Annan, Applegarth, Trailflatt (ancient parish now part of Tinwald,) Tundergarth, Torthorwald, Wamphray and Westerkirk.

For Eskdalemuir and Westerkirk "Ian Walker"  has been and recorded all the Beattie’s on the’ Post 1855 tombstones’ plus he has also recorded any more recent Beattie monuments that he found. These I have added to the originals. (Some of them include notes that he has made to show relationships and errors that he has found)

I hope these help someone
