Edna Mae (Collins) Covington

Obituary

 

Edna Mae Collins was born June 10, 1917 in Augusta Springs, Virginia the eldest of ten children born to Louis and Florence Collins.

 

Edna attended public school in the District of Columbia graduating from Cardoza Business High School, 1934.

 

At an early age Edna joined Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church where she sang in the Junior choir, served with the Junior Ushers and was the Sunday School secretary for several years.

 

On June 24, 1942 Edna was united in holy matrimony with Charles Harold Covington.  They were blessed with three daughters, Charlene Millicent, Joyce Marie and Stephanie.

 

Edna enjoyed life and was a farm girl at heart.  She loved the outdoors and was always at her best when the sun was shinning.  Edna loved to participate in dance and exercise classes at the South Shore Country Club.  She was also an accomplished seamstress and she taught all her girls to sew.  Edna was secretary of her senior group at Park Manor Church for several years.  She loved Frank Sinatra’s music.  Edna was employed at International Harvester in the patent law department until her retirement.

 

Edna made her transition on October 17, 2009.
