1. William, the ancestor of all who have borne this surname in Hing. and vic. by birth, was prob. from the western part of Eng., where, according to tradition, one or more of his dau's was m. The precise date at which he came to New Eng. is unknown. It is certain, however, that he was a resident of Dorchester as early as 1635, and prob. a widr., as no mention is made of his w. either upon Dor. or Hing. rec's. The foll. parcels of land were granted him at Dor. in 1637, viz.: "Jan. 2. It is ordered that Good: Lane shall haue one acre [at] the little neck towards the harbor." On the 18th of March foll. he had two additional grants of between six and seven acres; and at his decease he bequeathed to dau. Mary Long "my great lot" of ab. 24 acres. He also bequeathed to Thomas Rider "my Sonne in Law" and dau. Elizabeth his w. "my new dwelling-house" in Dor. with all the outhousing, gardens, etc. Also to his sons and sons in law, a specified sum to each, in silver. He d. ab. 1654 His will, proved 6 July of that year, mentions two sons and four dau's; all prob. b. in Eng., as foll.:
Note: The LANEs are a very ancient family. As early as 1067, a person of this name came over to England with William the Conqueror.
5. George, was one of the early town planters of Hing., and at the first distribution of land on Twon (North) St., Sept. 18, 1635, a house-lot of five acres was granted to him. He also had a grant of ten acres at "Nutty Hill," and thirteen shares in the common lands. The chris. name of his wife was Sarah. She d. in Hing. 26 March, 1694-95. He died 11 June, 1689. Will proved 20 Aug. foll. "Shoemaker." Selectman in 1669 and 1678. Resided on North, near Beal St. Ch., all b. or bt. in Hing., were:
4. Avis/Annis Lane, m. Thomas Lincoln, the Cooper, abt.
1630 in England. They settled in Hingham abt. 1635-36. She d. February 13,
1683. Thomas d. 28 Sept. 1691 in his residence on North St., West hingham, 28
Sept. 1691.

6. Sarah lane, b. in Eng. and d. at the house of her son-in-law, John Loring of Hull, 19 Aug. 1695. m. Nathaniel Hull, a farmer and large land-owner, constable, 1668, and selectman, 1661 and 1676. Nathaniel served in active service in King Philip's War. Resided on East St.
