The information below on William LANE was gathered from:
"Lane Genealogies Vol l " by Rev. Jacob Chapman & Rev. James H. Fitts 1891 and "History of Sanbornton NH Vol II Genealogies" by Rev. M.T. Runnels

They both say the "original" William was of English origin; a resident of Boston, Mass as early as 1651 and admitted freeman there May 6, 1657. Lane Genealogies lists his occupation as a cordwainer. He was married twice. His first wife Mary died May 2, 1656.They had the following children:

4. John LANE b. Boston 5 Feb 1653-4
5. Mary LANE b. 15 May 1656

He then married Mary Brewer 21 Aug 1656 and had:

6. Sarah LANE b. 15 June 1657
7. William LANE b.1 Oct 1659 a tailor m.21 June 1680 to Sarah Webster died 14 Feb 1749
8. Elizabeth LANE b. 3 Febl 1661
9. Ebenezer LANE b. 21 Mar 1666-7

11. Sarah b. 6 Nov 1688 m. 21 Dec 1721 to William Berry of Rye. died 3 Jan 1776
12. Abigail b. 9 Dec 1693 m. 14 Dec 1715 to John or Wllm. Vittum
13. Deacon Joshua Lane b. 6 June 1696 m. 24 Dec 1717 to Bathsheba Robie, she was born 2 Aug 1696 in Hampton NH. He died June 14, 1766 , at 70 years of age while standing on his door-step after a shower, he was killed by lightning! He was a tanner and shoemaker.
14. Samuel b. 4 June 1698 m. Elizabeth Blake and died 9 June 1776
