Below is the notes of Byron Renner who submitted the above information on his Lane Ancestors.
Background: I was born in Iowa in 1951, the son of Robert Renner and Dorine LANE. My grandmother LANE did a little family history, when I was a boy, that sparked this life's passion. However; the LANE side has been limited in information from my branch. My gggrandfather Robert Byron LANE may have been an only child to my knowledge. Robert Byron LANE, according to my grandmother, was the son of JOHN LANE (his wife Unknown) from Tennessee and Robert Byron Lane was born around 1840. Both Robert Byron and his father John died in Kansas.
In researching Robert Byron Lane, I reviewed my great grandfather Robert Franklin LANE in the 1910 and 1920 census records and surprisingly found that his father (Robert Byron) was born in Indiana. A relative had his birth date as 11 Nov 1832.
Family rumors from my grandmother's interview at LANE reunions has it that John and his wife had moved with the Morman Waggon Train to Omaha, Nebraska and wintered there with them. They then lived in Joplin, MO. and worked the lead mines, which may have helped to limit John having more children. They finally settled in Washington Co., Kansas. Robert Byron Lane died on 11 Dec 1884 in Havensville, Kansas.
I have no clue where John came from except rumored as TN and must have been in Indiana to have a child there.
