"b 1761 in Washington Co, Va; d 1845...John went to Blount co Tenn from Washington co [VA] in 1814; He located near Union Grove, 8 miles west of Maryville; Mark Lane [LOVE?] owned land in Blount co in 1814 [county was formed in 1795 from Knox county] and sold it to J Weir then to Gilbert Blankenship (who married Edith Lane, daughter of this John Lane); later John lived in Bradley County [this was Indian lands on 1830 census, available for 1840 census]; John sold 30 acres in Blount County for $100 to Gilbert Blankenship on 9 Jan 1820, which was part of land on Gallaghers Creek conveyed to him by Daniel Pausell; on 20 Sep 1838 John Lane of Bradley co deeded to Patton [Payton] Lane (his son) 281 acres on Gallagher Creek for $800, adjoining John Orr's original survey, leaving out the 30 acres sold to Gilbert Blankenship; John could be related to Joseph Lain of Amherst (soldier) [Is this Amherst County, VA?]; Amherst Tax List for 1738 shows Joseph Lane living between Valentine Payton and John Payton; (most of the information for this family line is taken from the [Meredith Alexander LANE] Bible of John Lane of Maryville, aged 91 years in 1961)."

JONES, exector of M. A. LANE (p. 165 in Ru. Adm. Bond Book p. 451). Also
signing bond, for sum of $2,500.00 were sons [from 2nd marriage] A.[lexander]
H.[arrison] LANE, S.[eymour] T.[aylor] LANE and John LANE.
(B) Ignatius JONES did an inventory of the personal property of estate of M. A.
LANE, filed 27 May 1909, and recorded on p. 173 of Estate Records, Vol. G., p.
37. Total in bank account or notes owed was not on sheet [sent by Ruth Carrol
in Mar 1995] but came to nearly $1,200.00.
(C) On 23 Aug 1910, filed on p. 438 (Re Estate Record "G" p. 112) the List of
Sales of the Personal Property of estate of M. A. LANE, as made by executor
Ignatius JONES. The most expensive item was 1 horse--$138; next 1 disc plow for
$6.50; down to 5 cents for a dish. There were two Bibles, one for $.60 went to
M. J. LANE [where is this now?]; other for $.15 to John LANE. Three books went
to Fred LANE for $.25. C. E. LANE bought 6 chairs for $3.00. Only sale to S. T.
LANE was for 1 barrel at $.25. [Total of sales $162.44.]
(D) An Executor's Settlement was filed on 22 May 1911, recorded in Book G, p.
162 (G.B. 23, p. 102). In it Ignatius JONES lists amount received from sales,
and collected on notes. It shows medical account payments; it also shows amount
paid by S. T. LANE for Tombstone[s?]: $30.60. Distribution of shares to heir
included $61.56 to S. T. LANE, and to others. Amount due the estate finally was
$110.72.
(E) Final executor's settlment dated 29 Apr 1912 shows the amount on had in
estate $270.89, reduced by credits given to several heirs of $147.47, leaving
Balance in Hands of Executor of $123.42. Share for Clarence LANE, minor heir of
Sebe LANE, decd., being held until age of 21 years. S. T. LANE got $19.25
[earlier took "Dist. Share" of $61.56].
