Wakefeild House, the home of Col. Joel LANE, son of Joseph Lane JR. and Patience MCKINNIE, daughter of Barnabas MCKINNIE. Joel was born in Halifax, NC and md. 1st to Martha Hinton, and after she died he married her sister Mary HINTON, daughters of Col. John HINTON and Grizelle KIMBROUGH.
This house was built about 1760, and was restored 1976. It is located at: Corner St, Mary's St. and E. Hargett St., in Raleigh, NC. It is on the Restigster of Historical Places, Raleigh Historical Site.
The furningshings in this home are of the 18 Century period, almost all American. Some of the Furniture within the home was made in Wake Co., and is believed to have belonged to the Lane Family.
Col. Joel LANE was a Justice of the Peace, Sherriff, Senator and served in the Revolutionary WAR. To learn more on Joel LANE:
