My Dear friend, Barb has departed this life, and oh, how I miss her, as do all of her many other friends and family. She was born 9 October 1951 in Long Beach, CA to Col. Robert E. Baldwin and Mary Elizabeth Tarter. She was married on 29 May 1983 to Kent Albert Johnson, they had two beautiful daughters, Katie and Mary. Barb died in her home on January 12, 2000, due to complications from pneumonia. Barb was loved by all who knew her. She was very loving, caring, compassionate, supportive, wonderful, generous and the BEST friend anyone could ever have. I will miss my dear friend so very much. There is a Trust Fund being set up for Barb and Kent's two daughters, Mary and Katie. I will post the details as soon as I know them
Barb was a very loving wife and mother, gave all she had, her whole life. Those she worked with her treasure her deep in their hearts. She was a wonderful Genealogist, who would help out her cuzzies in any way she could. We would go do research together all the time, and her favorite thing to do was go cemetery hopping. LOL! We would even go to all these cemteries where we knew of no one there personally. We'd spend all day there, and even sat down and have our own picnic. :) She always wanted a bumper sticker that said, "I Brake for Cemeteries!" And she always did .. brake for them. : )
I remember when my roommate, Sam and I helped teach Barb html. She was so afraid that she would never understand it all, but quickly surpassed our combined knowledge. The graphics she created were incredibly beautiful and she went on to design graphics for many web sites, including Sam's "Notable Women Ancestors" site, my Lane web pages, my Lawrence Co., Ohio GENWEB pages, my Worthington pages and my Cowan web site. Her own web pages were outstanding, and she herself was especially proud of her Nancy Hart web site.
Barb and her children are descendants of Nancy Morgan Hart who was a Revolutionary War Herione. Barb did all she could to make sure Nancy was remembered. Now it is our turn to honor Barb and always remember her. Several months ago, Barb read an article about a man who proposed to have Nancy Hart's grave moved from Kentucky to Georgia. Barb was horrified as were many of her Hart cousins and she began efforts to ensure that Nancy would remain buried where she is. Admittedly, Nancy Hart's grave has been neglected by past generations, and Barb wanted more than anything else to have it cleaned up and to have a memorial erected. It is my goal to continue Barb's efforts to not only keep Nancy Hart buried where she is at, but to fulfill Barb's wishes of erecting a memorial to Nancy Hart, in memory of Barb. If anyone would like to help with this endeavor, please e-mail me for details [email protected], as I have started the Barbara E. Johnson/Nancy Morgan Hart Memorial Fund.
We all have special memories of Barb, she was loved by all, and will be greatly missed by everyone.
Wind Beneath My Wings
It must have been cold there in my shadow,
So I was the one with all the glory,
Did you ever know that you're my hero?
It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
Did you ever know that you're my hero?
Did I ever tell you you're my hero?
To never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that's your way,
You always walked a step behind.
While you were the one with all the dreams.
Beautiful face without a name, for so long,
A beautiful smile to hide the pain.
You're everything I would like to be.
I could fly higher than an eagle,
But you are the wind beneath my wings.
But I've got it all here in my mind.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it,
I would be nothing without you.
You're everything I wish I could be.
I would fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings.
You're everything, everything I wish I could be.
Oh, I can fly higher than an eagle,
For you are the wind beneath my wings.
You are the wind beneath my wings.
Lyrics from Bette Midler's movie Beaches.
Please feel free to sign the guest book. :) Barb's family will have access to it to read your comments. A few weeks ago before Barb passed away she had designed these guest book graphics for me for my Lane web site. I find it only appropriate to use them here.
I LOVE and MISS YOU MY Friend! Till we meet again. Heather W. Bowers.
