ABRAHAM BRYANT SR.1
of Reading, Ma.
Who his parents were, when and where he was born and when he
came to New England is not recorded. The first time we find him, is
when he married Mary KENDALL on 2 Feb 1664 at Reading, Ma. Abraham was
not a common name within the New England Bryant's at this period of
time, and he is not mentioned in the other Bryant family lines. Thus,
it seems likely that he was a late arrival, proberly just about the
time of his first marriage in 1664.
He was a blacksmith by trade and all four of his sons also became
blacksmiths. He held several small town offices from 1670 to 1695, plus
he served as selectman in 1695 & 1700.
He lived in the section which in 1868 became Wakefield, Ma., and was
the area that was originally settled as Reading. The genealogy records
that have information listed as taking place in Wakefield, which was
prior to 1868. It is believed that this was because the infomation
found is from the Wakefield vital records and no corresponding record
was found in the Reading vital records.
The published material on Abraham Bryant of Reading, Ma. can be found
in "The Descendants of Abraham Bryant of Reading", by Ann S. Lainhart
and "Genealogical History of the Town of Reading, Mass", by Lilly
Eaton.
