Last Will and Testament of George Knable

In the name of God amen in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirteen and the twenty fourth day of May-I George Kanable of Bethel Township Bedford County and State of Pennsylvania being sick and weak of body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be to Almighty God for all his mercies.

Calling to mind the mortality of my body knowing that it is appointed for all flesh to die, I therefore do make this my last will and testament in manner following (viz) That is to say first I give my soul to God that gave it and my body to the earth to be buried in a Christian decent manner at the discretion of my Executor, hereafter named, and after all my funeral expences and all my just debts are paid or discharged. . . I give will and bequeath all my real and personal estate to my son John Knable that is to say I give all my land, all my stock, all my farming utensils, all my blacksmith tools, all my house & kitchen furniture that is to say I give all my real and moveable yea every individual of my property to my son John Knable and to his heirs executors administrators or assigns to have and to hold forever.

My son John shall pay the just and full sum of three hundred pounds good and lawful money of Pennsylvania for all the above mentioned property in manner following but not till after my decease. Those three hundred pounds shall be equally divided between my six children after my decease in manner following, viz, one year after my decease my son John or the Executors shall pay to my daughter Elizabeth, fifty pounds and that shall be her full share of my whole estate. Three years after my decease they shall pay to my son George fifty pounds and that shall be his full share of my estate. Five years after mydecease they shall pay fifty pounds to my son Henry and that shall be his full share of my estate. Seven years after my decease they shall pay fifty pounds to my daughter Polly and that shall be her share of my estate. Seven years after my decease they shall pay to my daughter Caty fifty pounds and five pounds by -----? the fifty pounds for a cow. Thus shall those three hundred pounds be divided between my six children after my decease: fifty pounds to Elizabeth, fifty pounds to John, fifty pounds to George, fifty pounds to Henry, fifty pounds to Polly, fifty to Caty and five pounds for a cow to Caty.

And Secondly, My son John must support and maintain me this date during my natural life and find me in victuals and clothes washing and landying, that is to say he must support me in a decent and in a Christian manner during my natural life and furthermore I do appoint my son John Knable and Mr. Jacob Hearst, both in Bethell Township Bedford County to be my lawfull executors to have my last will truly and punctually performed and furthermore I do allow this and no other to be my last will and testament

I do hereby disallow and revoke all former testaments, wills, Legacies and Executors ratifying this and no other to be my last will and testament in witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.

Personally appeared before me the subscriber Register for the Probate of will and granting letters of administration in and for said County Michael Waggoner one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing instrument of writing who being duly affirmed do say that he was personally present and heard and saw George Knable the Testator sign seal and declare the foregoing instrument in writing to be his last will and testament. That at the time of doing thereof the testator was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding according to the best of affirmants knowledge and belief and that he subscribed his name thereto as a witness in the presence of the testator and at his request.

Personally appeared before me the subscriber Register for the Probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration in and for sai County Benjamin Furel one of the subscribing witnesses to the within instrument of writing who being duly sworn doth depose and say that he was personally present and heard and saw George Knable the Testator sign seal and declare the foregoing instrument in writing to be his last will and testament that at the time of doing thereof the Testator was of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding according to the best of this deponents knowledge and belief and that he subscribed his name thereto as a witness in the presence of the testator and at his request.
