Adelaide L. Wildey and Family

Adelaide L. 3 Wildey (Edward Henry2, Thomas1) was born January 1860 in Rome, Oneida Co. NY. Although her name was given as "Mary" in the 1860 census, she later went by "Adelaide" or simply "Addie." [1]

Addie first married a Mr. Monroe. By 1898 she was divorced, when she then married another divorcee, Oliver H. Darrison, the son of John H. Darrison and Mary Gibson. [2] John and Mary immigrated to the United States from England and settled in Lockport in Niagara Co., NY. John worked there as a flour dealer. [3] Oliver was born in August 1870 in Lockport. [4]

The two married in Lockport on 9 March 1898, when Addie would have been about 38 and Oliver a mere 27 years of age. The ceremony was performed by Benjamin Herr, a clergyman. [5] The two were married at her residence on McCollum Street. She was at the time proprietor of the candy shop at the Hodge Opera House in Lockport. [6]

In 1900, Oliver was working as a teamster hauling flour and the couple lived in a rented home. [7] He seems to have prospered, as the Darrisons owned their own home with a mortgage in 1910, when Oliver was then working as a policeman for the city of Lockport. [8] By 1920 he had been promoted to detective. [9]
