Charlotte Amelia Farr and George Bingham

Charlotte Amelia3 Farr (Harriet Sarah 2 Wildey, Thomas1) was born on 24 May in Rome, Oneida Co. NY, the daughter of Harriet Wildey and Archibald Farr. While her death certificate gives 1849 as her year of birth, the 1850 census showed Harriet Wildey as single and childless, making the 1852 year of birth given in the 1900 census more probable. [1]

Lottie married George Bingham in October 1896. [2] George was a good fourteen years younger than Lottie, born on 14 November 1865 in Lee, Oneida County, NY. [3] He was one of twin boys born to George Bingham and Mary Platt, immigrants from France and Switzerland, respectively. In 1880 George Bingham Sr. was a farmer in Lee, Oneida County, NY. [4]

As a young man George worked on his father's farm training horses. In about 1891 he and his twin Joseph purchased the Mansion House from his future father-in-law, Archibald Farr and ran it for 43 years. He sold the hotel in 1934, a year before his death. [5]

Lottie died at home at 113 Whitesboro St. in Rome on 24 September 1932. Her death was due to senility, from which she had suffered for 5 years. Arterio sclerosis was listing as a contributing cause. Her obituary noted that she was a member of Zion Episcopal Church, the same church to which her mother had belonged. She was buried in Rome Cemetery. [6]

George died on 24 May 1935 in Rome. Despondent over his declining health, he hung himself in his attic after carefully arranging all of his affairs. He is buried in Rome Cemetery.[7]
