The file has been converted from the original WordStar format
to HTML, and indexed, thanks to John Chandler. This file started as four pieces concatenated into one large file, but the loading time proved to be too long under some conditions. It has now been split into hundreds of small "pages", some as short as a few lines of text and some considerably longer. In the main part of the file, and in the appendices, each "page" consists of the concatenated family groups of one or more siblings. The reference list is broken into "pages" in groups of related sources. The index has one "page" for each initial letter. With this organization, it is not possible to scroll or search globally for a specific text string: navigation through
the index is necessary. The simplest way to reach the index is to backtrack from wherever you have gone in the file, but it is also possible to follow the father links up to the top of the file (or the top of an appendix) and jump from there to the index.

GEORGE BLANCHARD & DESCENDANTS
[son of Thomas & Elizabeth Blanchet/Blanchard]
FOREWORD:
- This file consists of extensive, but obviously incomplete, data on George Blanchard & descendants -- in some cases
through ten generations of those bearing the surname -- plus 13
appendices containing miscellaneous data on a number of
families who might prove to belong to this line. The references
are included at the end.
- Data are presented in a time-line format rather than narrative because the original intention was to prove or disprove
claims made in early family or county histories, etc. by a study
of census, deed & probate records which supplement data provided
by various regional printed vital records. Data from deeds &
probates are included where they place a family in a specific
locality or it seems some of the other persons mentioned might
conceivably be related one way or another...
- Records studied to-date have helped sort out individuals
bearing the same names; however, many of these remain to be
checked and should be easily available to family historians.
Whenever possible a "?" or "Theory" is added to data which are
suggestive but not proved at this time. In addition, suggestions
are sometimes included as to where further data may be discovered.
- The numbers assigned to individuals are based on generations
& their placement within a list of siblings as they were identified [not always chronological]. In this file,
George's descendants are preceded by "TG" [T = Thomas & G = George].
The "numbers" are in groups of 3 separated by a hyphen for easy
"tracking"...
- Some lineages not yet firmly connected are nonetheless included in
the appendices. Some of these have tentative numbers assigned
according to the above scheme, and some have numbers beginning with
"Z0" (indicating a higher uncertainty about the possible connection).
- All documented additions to these families will be most
welcome...

- *Re: Controversy--Ident. of wives of George
- [9a]: From his Will, it is known there were at least two.
- [272]: Torrey claims both were named Mary.
- [4]: Wyman claims 1st was ___ Hills & 2nd was Mary ____
- [2c]: Proves that Elizabeth Hills, daughter of Joseph & Rose,
was the wife of John Blanchard, who later was one of the
founders of Dunstable [Nashua], NH - not the wife of the
above George Blanchard.
- [8]: claims wife was Elizabeth (Hills) Harris, dau of
Joseph & Rose Hills & widow of Anthony Harris. Claims to have
found a court record supporting identity [documention not
given]
- [9b]: George's widow, Mary, is mentioned in deed 12:601 [1700
transaction by Abraham Blanchard] No sales by Mary of her
dower land noted in Grantor index [to 1750] [9b]
- [9c] The Mary Blanchard who died 1716 in Lexington could also
be a dau of George Jr [TG3]; however he was in CT by this
date.
- **Re: Children
- [4]: On p 88, Wyman erroneously includes 4 of Samuel's children [Joshua, Jonathan, Mary, Abigail] in this family. On the
same page in reference to the division of George's estate, 9
of the 10 children are listed correctly. Son Thomas, p89, had
died earlier, leaving some of his goods in the possession of
his brother Joseph.
