I, Allie G. Hunt, Clerk of the Fayette County Court do certify that the records of my office show that a return of the marriage of John Thomson to Nancy Ellis was made by the Rev J. Vardaman on 14 day of Feby 1817.

On this Second day of October, A.D. one thousand eight hundred and Seventy eight, personally appeared before me E. W. Combs Clerk Clark County Court, the same being a court of record within and for the County and State aforesaid. (1) Ann B. Coleman aged 78 years, a resident of Fayette County, in the State of Kentucky who, being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is the widow of (2) John Thomson deceased, who was the identical (3) John Thomson, who served under the name of (4) John Thomson as a (5) Captain in the Company commanded by Captain John Thomson himself in the....... regiment of Kentucky Militia, commanded by Col. Gabriel Slaughter in the war of (6) 1812; that her said husband (7) Volunteered at Lexington Kentucky on or about the.......day of........A. D. 1814 for the term of 60 days, and continued in actual service in said war for the term of (8) Sixty days and whose services terminated, by reason of (9) honorable discharge at..........on the........day of..........A. D. 1815. She further states that the following is a full description of her said husband at the time of his enlistment, viz: (10) Light hair, light eyes, light complexion and medium height. That he was with his company in the battle of New Orleans La on 8th Jany 1815. She further states that she was married to said Captain John Thomson, at the city (or town) of..........,in the county of Fayette, and in the State of Kentucky, on the fourteenth day of February A. D. 1817 by one (11) J Vardaman, who was a (12) Minister of the Gospel; and that her name before her said marriage was Nancy Ellis, and that she has remarried since the death of said Capt. John Thomson; and she further states that (13) said Captain John Thomson was never married to any person but this applicant, that she afterwards on 13th Jany 1825 married Horace Coleman who died on the 18th December 1846 in Fayette County Kentucky at his (?) and that her said husband (14) John Thomson, died at Howard County, in the State of Missouri, on the 16th day of September A. D. 1822; and she further declares that the following have been the places of residence of herself and her said husband since the date of his discharge from the Army, viz: (15) that after her marriage with said Captain John Thomson they removed from Fayette County Kentucky to Howard County Missouri, and after his death she moved back to Fayette County Kentucky. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the Pension to which she may be entitled under Section 4736 to 4740, inclusive, Revised Statutes, and the Act of March 9, 1878, and hereby appoints, with full powers of substitution and revocation, James Flanagan, of Winchester Kentucky her true and lawful attorney to prosecute her claim. That she has never married since the death of said Horace Coleman. She is now a widow. And she further declares that she has heretofore made two applications for (16) Bounty Land (?) and each of said applications she ??? two 80 ???????? in name of Ann B. Coleman. That the name she was called and known by was Nancy Ellis ?????she was called Nancy Ellis, & license for her marriage was issued in name of Nancy Ellis and that her residence is No......street, city (or town) of......county of Fayette State of Kentucky, and that her post office address is Chilesburg, Fayette County Kentucky, I am now called Aunt Nancy Coleman by my ???, but my right name is Ann B. Coleman.

by me duly sworn, say that they have know the said Ann B. Coleman for 20 years and for 20 years, respectively; that
they were present and saw her sign her name (or make her mark)
to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe,
from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with
her, that she is the identical person she represents herself to
be; and they further say that they are able to identify her as
the person who was the wife of the identical (17) Capt.
John Thomson, who rendered the service alleged in
the above application (in the company of Captain John
Thomson, in the regiment of Kentucky
Militia in the war of 1812)
by the following named facts and circumstances, viz: (18) That Eva M. Coleman married her son Col.
Cicero Coleman & live with her & I C. S. French am connected
by marriage with Col. Coleman family and have heard said fact
since ??? relating with the family, and they know
that she has not remarried since the death of Horace
Coleman her second
husband, that they have no interest in the prosecution of this
claim.

On this 24th day of October AD 1878, personally appeared before the undersigned authority in and for said County and State.
Mrs Eliza T. Shipp aged 78
years, a resident of the town of Winchester in said County and
State, who being first duly sworn according to law says that she
has known Mrs Ann B. Coleman of Fayette County in Kentucky, since
they were young girls, now upwards of sixty five years, that they
were raised in the same neighborhood in said County of Fayette
in State of Kentucky. The knew her before she intermarried with
Captain John Thomson, that her maiden name was Ann B. Ellis, but
she was called and known by the name of Nancy Ellis, when she
was a girl and was called Nancy Thomson in the lifetime of said
John Thomson. That after her intermarriage with said Captain John
Thomson they removed to the State of Missouri, where Captain Thomson
died; after his death she returned to the County of Fayette in
the State of Kentucky, and after her said return to Fayette County
Kentucky, she married again to Horace Coleman who died on the
18th day of December 1846, and that she has not remarried since
said Colemans death, and is now a widow.
I knew women whose names are Martha, called Patsey, and some named
Elizabeth, called Betsey some named Mary called Polly, some named
Ann called Nancy, I never knew the reason for it if there ever
was any: I am not akin or in any interested in the Claims of Ann
B. Coleman as the widow of Captain John Thomson for a Pension
under Act 9 March 1878,

lady I am not interested in the claim of Ann B. Coleman for a

John H. Darnaby aged 70 years a resident of the County of Fayette
in the State of Kentucky, who being first duly sworn according
to law says that he has known Mrs Ann B. Coleman of Fayette County
in Kentucky, for upwards of fifty years. That they were raised
in the same neighborhood in said County of Fayette in the State
of Kentucky. That I knew her before her intermarriage with Captain
John Thomson; that her maiden name was Ann B. Ellis but she was
called and known by the name of Nancy Ellis, when she was a single
woman and before she married said Thomson. After her marriage
with him she was called Nancy Thomson. That after her intermarriage
with said Thomson, they removed to the State of Missouri, where
said Captain Thomson died. After his death she returned to the
State of Kentucky, & County of Fayette, and some time afterwards
she married Horace Coleman in Fayette County where they lived
together as husband and wife up to said Colemans death which occurred
on the 18th day of December 1846, and that she has never remarried
since the death of said Coleman, and now a widow. Said Thomson
was never married but once. I knew that the custom has prevailed
to call persons by the name of Ann-Nancy and those named Elizabeth-Betsey
-those named Mary-Polly- why I never knew, I am not interested
in her claim for a pension.
