Henry Clay Bartlett

Henry Clay BARTLETT, fifth son and tenth child of Jesse BARTLETT and Frances CALLAWAY, was born on 17 March 18281 in Illinois.2
He was not quite four years old when the family arrived in Texas in late 1831 from Illinois.3
In the Mexican War he served as a corporal in Company G of the First Regiment, Texas Mounted Volunteers. He was mustered into federal service on 25 May 1847, received a disability discharge on 11 Jan 1848, and was mustered out of service on 1 May 1848.4 He died in Mexico on 4 January 1848, at age 19, after drinking from a poisoned well.5,6
