[256] Naturalization Certificate - John Angst, Codington Co, SD dated 20 Nov, 1891 Emmigrated 1883 according to 1910 Census, declared intent to become a citizen on May 2nd, 1886. Farmed 10 acres on Bakerville Road in Marchfield, worked at the Blodgett hotel as a handyman.
[257] JOHN ANGST:
[258] John was born in Switzerland, on October 14 1850, the son of Joseph Angst and Anna Widmer. John immigrated to the United States and settled in the township of Volney, Hand County in the Dakota Territories in the early 1880's (1883 according to the 1910 census). He filed a Letter of Intent to become a citizen of the United States on March 2nd 1886. He became a recognized citizen when his petition for citizenship was filed with the Hand County Court on the 20th of November 1891.
[259] MARY JAGGLI/JAEGGLI:
[260] Born in Switzerland, April 28th 1864. She immigrated to Kolda township in Hand County, South Dakota.
[261] FAMILY HISTORY:
[262] John Angst and Mary Jaggli, were married on May 26th 1893, by a Justice of the Peace H.W. Chapman, in Volney, South Dakota. On the 13th of January 1894, John registered for a 160 acre land grant under the Homestead Act of 1862. The land is described on this petition as follows:
[263] "North West Quarter of Section Twenty eight in Township One Hundred and Fifteen North of Range Seventy West of the Fifth Principle Meridian in South Dakota containing one hundred and sixty acres.
[264] Their first child Joseph Valentine Angst, was born in the township of Polo, South Dakota on February 14th, 1895. He was baptized on July 7th, 1895, records are maintained at St. Liborius parish in Polo. The couples second child Anna Marie was born on September 20th, 1896.
[265] On February 28th, 1898 John and Mary sold their 160 acre homestead to Franklin Blackman of Ogle County, Illinois for the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars. Sometime after the sale of their homestead, the Angst family moved to the town of Marshfield in Wood County Wisconsin. On May 13th, 1903 John and Mary purchased a farm on 10 acres of land from L.C. and Alice Harriel, for $1800.00. They resold the land on the same day to Adam Hafer for $850.00, keeping the rights to the building, and working the land.
[266] The couples third child Mary was born on September 22nd 1903, in Marshfield, Wisconsin.
[267] John worked the farm,, and as a custodian at the Blogget Hotel in Marshfield.
[268] The 1910 census shows the Angsts as residents of the town of Marshfield Wisconsin. and lists them as follows:
[269] Angst John Age 59, immigrated 1883, occupation - laborer in a furniture factory.
[270] Mary Age 46, immigrated 1883, occupation farmer - on own farm.
[271] Joseph V. Age 15, born in South Dakota, occupation - laborer in a Hamock Factory.
[272] Annie M. Age 13, born in South Dakota, occupation - servant in home
[273] Mary L. Age 6, born in Wisconsin.
[274] Son Joseph left home sometime in 1910 and moved to Sheboygan, Wisconsin, where he obtained work in a mattress factory. The Family sold the farm (building only) on June 18th 1910, for $100.00 to Otto C. Hahn. Joseph became ill with an abscessed hip and the family moved from Marshfield to Sheboygan to take care of Joseph, arriving on September 22nd 1912, Anna's sixteenth birthday. The family lived at 1003 South 14th Street, John worked at the Northern Furniture Company.
[275] John Angst died on May 23rd 1916, at home in Sheboygan, Wisconsin at the age of 65. After his fathers death Joseph moved to Green Bay Wisconsin and began an upholstery business, Green bay Upholstery. Mary Angst died on October 10th 1920. She committed suicide by hanging herself from the rafters of the cellar in her home at 1003 S. 14th Street, Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Both John and Mary are buried in Wildwood Cemetery in Sheboygan.
[276] Anna married Gustave Kirchner on May 5th, 1921 where the couple lived in the house originally her parents. Mary married Ed Radtke on May 6th, 1922.
