Obituary for Charles Osborn

OBITUARY OF CHARLES OSBORN
about 3/22/1920, Publication unknown

Charles Osborn, son of Peter and Sarah Hadley Osborn, was born in Clinton County, Ohio, November 8, 1834, in which county he lived his long and useful life of more than 85 years, residing almost all of that time in the vicinity of the Beech Grove Church of which meeting he was a birthright and life-long member.

He was married to Mary R. Osborn, February 28, 1867. To them were born ten daughters and five sons--Leona Jay, Pauline Bailey (Baily), Katherine Reeve, Marie McNemar, Mildred Hughes, Mable Davis, Alice, Lucy, Laura and Nellie, Eli, Frederick, Adam, Alfred and Alfred, all of whom are still living except Eli, who died in infancy.

Besides the widow and fourteen children, he leaves a brother Elwood, one sister, Ruth Ann Smith, two half sisters, Mary Smith and Addie Crouse, and seven grandchildren.

His beautiful Christian life has been an inspiration to his family and friends, and through all his affliction and failing health, he was always patient and cheerful, showing a sincere appreciation of his wife's constant care and devotion.

He was a regular attender(sic) at church as long as his health permitted and the worn leaves of his Bible indicate the source of his Divine guidance and comfort.

The family reunions were times of joy and love and eagerly looked forward to from year to year. Especially was the golden wedding celebration, three years ago, an occasion for rejoicing. How he shall be missed no words can express.

It is unusual that his is the second death in the family , and the only one for almost half a century. A life well spent, but not ended, for on and on it rushes with deeds well done in love and kindness which can not die.

He could truly say: Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be. The last of life, for which the first was made. our times are in His hand, who saith, "A whole I planned, youth shows but half; trust God; see all, nor be afraid."
