name Rene Ancelin brought with him from France was at different times
translated as Aslin, Asslin, Ashline and Ashley. Mary Louise Asselin
was known as Lucy Ashley. This managed to keep us confused for

(Tow has several definitions in the Oxford dictionary but I believe it would mean in this case "the unworked stem or fibre of flax before it is heckled (combed) for spinning"). From what I could gather, the next process would be to comb the tow and then make linen thread out it, by spinning.
