Funeral services for Charles L. Anderson, who died Monday at the home of his son, Frank Anderson, on the Sissonville road, will be held Thursday afternoon at one o'clock at the Bartlett chapel. Burial will be made in the Anderson cemetery.

Mr. Anderson is survived by four children: Frank ANDERSON, Mrs. E. E. DARROW, Mrs Fred DROZDO, Mrs. George BARTLEY; one brother, John ANDERSON, one sister, Mrs. John GARRETT.

Frank C. Mitchell, 84, of Dunbar, died Aug. 13, 1999, at home after a long illness.

 

He was a retired electrician from Union Carbide Corp. with 28 years' service. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, having been awarded several medals. He attended Rebecca Chapel and was a lifelong resident of Dunbar.

 

Surviving: sons, John Scott of Poca, David K. of Cross Lanes; daughter, Dawn Peal of South Charleston; brother, George W. of Dunbar; sisters, Mary Pyle of Nitro, Mildred Robinson of California, Gladys Crawford of Ohio; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

 

The body was donated to the Human Gift Registry at West Virginia University, Morgantown. Friends may call from 1 to 4 p.m. today at the home of the family at 1212 Payne Ave., Dunbar. Homer Edward Anderson,  88, of 1012 West Virginia Ave., Dunbar, died Thursday in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a long illness. He was formerly by Fletcher Enamel Co. and was a member of First United Methodist Church, Dunbar, He was a past member of the American Legion, a veteran of World War I, and a resident of Dunbar for 50 years.

     Surviving: wife, Grace Edington Anderson;daughters, Mrs. Pauline Horton of Middleport, Ohio, Mrs. Phyllis Atkinson of Parkersburg: and six grandchildren; one great-grandson.

Romie served in the U.S. Army (1910 - 1913) after the Phillipine Insurrection. After his return to West Virginia he became the first mail carrier in the Elkview area of Kanawha County. He worked for the Navel Ordinance Plant in South Charleston during WW I, and later joined the new International Nickel Company in Huntington, WV 1922.Romie was an ordained Primitiveptist minister. He served the church at Culloden, WV, at Matewan, KY and at Campbellsburg, KY. He was moderator of the Primitive Baptist's Mates Creek Association for many years.

Friday for a hearing impaired 8-year-old boy who has been missing for three days in freezing temperatures.  The sheriff's department called off the search for Robert Harmon Friday evening and planned to resume the effort Saturday morning. _ A Ripley-area boy who disappeared during the coldest week of the winter died from loss of body heat according to the state medical examiner. Robert Lee Harmon, 9, who lived on Route 1 in Gay, died of environmental hypothermia, according to Dr. Irvin Sopher, the state medical examiner. Harmon's body  was found by a hiker Thursday afternoon about 2 miles from his home. Harmon, a child with a hearing impairment, disappeared Feb. 7 after he left his home to walk to the home of his grandparents. He. was wearing a shirt, slacks, a light jacket and shoes, little shelter. against a sudden cold snap that dropped temperatures to near zero for a week. GULL LAKE, Mich. - Dr. W. Howard Goff, 72, of Gull Lake, Mich. died June 7, 2001, at home.

 

He was born March 20, 1929, in Charleston, W.Va., to William Howard and Georgia Anderson Goff.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Denise Ann Goff, in 1979, brother, Harold Goff, in 1968 and stepmother, Lorraine H. Goff, in 1984.

 

He graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston in 1947 and attended Morris Harvey College, Charleston, and Marshall University, Huntington, W.Va.

 

He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps at the 11th Field Hospital in Germany from 1951-1953.

 

He earned an osteopathic degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathy and interned at Lakeview General Hospital in Battle Creek, Mich. He was a private practice physician from 1960 until retiring in 1991.

 

He was an avid golfer, a member of Riverside Country Club in Battle Creek, where he was a former club champion, and a member of University Park Country Club in Florida, where he was Senior Champion, and he enjoyed fishing. He was former chief-of-staff at Lakeview General Hospital and was the team physician for Lakeview High School from 1967-1969. He was a member of Westlake Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Masonic Temple. He wintered in University Park, Fla.

 

He married Barbara Bower on March 27, 1951, in Charleston. She survives.

 

Also surviving are daughters, Leslie A. Oppat of Portland, Ore., Julia A. VanDomelen of Kalamazoo, Mich.; son, David B. Goff of Battle Creek; five grandchildren; brother, Gary Goff of Cape Coral, Fla.; sisters, Betty Lou Larson of Charleston, S.C., Mary Jane Miller of Summerville, S.C.

 

Service was Monday, June 11, at Shaw Funeral Home, Battle Creek. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
