DEHART, Claude E., 74, president of DeHart Paint & Varnish Company, died at 1:30 a.m. yesterday at Pewee Valley Hospital. [18 MAR 1958]
DeHart, 103 Crescent Court, founded the company, at 906 E. Main in 1931. Earlier he was an executive with the old Sterling Paint & Color Company here.
He was elder emeritus of Crestwood Christian Church, and served on the Oldham County School Board from 1938 to 1943. He was a Mason and former member of the Louisville Kiwanis Club.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Betty Cowherd DEHART; a daughter, Mrs. C. Douglas LITTRELL, Jr.; two sons, C.R. and John T. DEHART and nine grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Arch L. Heady Funeral Home, 1201 E. Oak. Burial will be in Cave Hill Cemetery.

Boyhood Ambition, to be a Pro-Baseball Player (He played semi-pro as a pitcher.) His hobbies are tennis, hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. Born at Laurel Fort, VA, attended Public Schools of Virginia, and Kansas, also Topeka, Kansas Business College. Member of Kiwanis, Masons, Crescent Hill Golf Club, and Clifton Christian Church.
He is President & Treasurer of DeHart Paint and Varnish Co., Entered Paint Mfg. in 1910 in charge of Production and Office Management. Organized Present Firm in 1931. Member of Louisville Paint, Oil and Varnish Club and Louisville Production Men's Club. Worked in Kansas Wheat Fields to earn school tuition, then in Baggage Room at St. Louis Union Station. Later Steno, for L&N R.R. Married Betty Louise COWHERD of Lou. Has 4 children: Tad, John T., McDowell, and Betsey Jane. - Submitted by Beth Breisch
