DeHart Family History - by Andrew Jackson DeHart

A Preliminary Study of the Origin and History of the DeHart Family

By: Andrew Jackson DeHart

MARY DeHART

Better Known as Aunt Polly
January, 9 1831- February 10, 1900.

Any one who ever was about the home of John DeHart and enjoyed his noted hospitality could not help but note the diligence of the unmarried daughter who like her brother Jack was noted as a great worker. Each was said to do the work of two people. Forty years ago she could be seen going to and from the spring with two buckets, and in other ways patiently doing what seemed killing tasks without complaint. When it seemed she would tire at keeping the home going she would find time to sit down and call any of the children and grand children to her and ask what they wanted aunty to get them for dinner. She would always have some friendly thing to say and before the conversation was over tell where to find the ripest best apples and when dinner was called she would have a favorite pie ready and how did she do it in so short a time without apparent hurry.

There was not a finer character among all the kin and will any of you ever forget the unselfish love she bestowed on all the young kin and others. You never heard a word said against Aunt Polly by the kin or neighbors. She should be ever remembered for her unselfish labors in helping to entertain all callers.

See that flowers are regularly put on her grave and oblige me and all who remember her.
