ANCESTORS OF THE DeHART AND SHEARER FAMILIES

Tusquittee, Clay County, N. C. February 4, 1904 (This statement was dictated by Mrs. Ellen Shearer to and written by her grandson, H. C. Moore, and was signed by him at the time, she being 91 years old. Mr. Moore obligingly sent me a copy. A. J. D.)

Richard DeHart, Ellen Nellie DeHart�s Grandfather, emigrated from Rutherford County, N. C., to Wayne County, Ky. He married Elizabeth Tolerson. He was a farmer. He raised seven children, their names were John, Reuben and Nathan. (Sallie failed to get the other three children�s names). After living to a good old age, Grandfather and Grandmther died in Kentucky. Were members of the Baptist Church.

John DeHart, the oldest son of Richard DeHart, married Lettie ---------- and raised a family of children. There names were: Larkin, Joshua, Taylor, and John. Names of girls: Nancy and Elizabeth. Don�t know who Reuben married. He moved off form Kentucky.

Nathan DeHart married Christine Ramsey: raised seven children - four boys and three girls. Their names: john D. , William D., Martin D., Mary D. , Ellen D., and Sallie D.

Nancy DeHart died: raised no family, Elizabeth D., married. Don know who she married.

John DeHart, son of Nathan DeHart, married a Roberts and raised a family of thirteen children; one got drowned, William DeHart, son of Nathan married Sallie Lovelace, raised a family of twelve children.

Martin DeHart, son of Nathan, married Elizabeth Elders daughter of a preacher and raised a family of 10 children - moved to Arkansas.

Morgan DeHart, son of Nathan, married Jane Ray, had a family of eight children - moved to Ducktown, Tennessee - was a farmer.

Mary DeHart, daughter of Nathan married Solomon Truitt, farmer raised a family of five children. She lived a widow 50 years. Mary died at the age of 94 years a member of the Baptist Church.

Sallie DeHart, daughter of Nathan, married William Marr, raised a family of twelve children.

Ellen DeHart, daughter of Nathan, married Allen Shearer and raised a family of twelve children, five boys and seven girls. General Sumpter is a grand uncle of grandma Shearer (Ellen DeHart).

The DeHart family is a descent of Irish and English.

This is statement of Grandma Shearer at the age of 91 years.
