Just wanted to drop a line and say that I had been slowly (due to work and 2
kids) doing research on Nuckols and had gotten stumped at Pouncy Sr. Nuckols,
1700s.  Your site helped me trace back to James Nuckles, Nuckols, Nuccol.  I
am thrilled.

My name is Connie (Nuckols) Rosenberg.  Charles Andrew Nuckols, 1878-1972, lived his final days in Grandview, Texas and was my great grandfather. My family is from Texas.

Sincerely,
Connie Rosenberg  [email protected]

Samuel Alva Nuckols

The Nuchols Network says Samuel Nuckols had a plumbing business in California in 1924.  I'll bring you up to date.

Samuel Alva Nuckols was born September 20, 1886 in Clifton, Bosque County, Texas.  His parents were Eugene and Eugenia (Hill) Nuckols.  Sam's siblings were Mildred Overton, (b 1882), Myrtle Evelyn (1883), Virgie M. (1884), Duke Sherwood (abt 1888), William (3/8/1891), Frank Gerald (5/11/1897), Theresa Sue (abt 1900), and John C (abt 1902, died in infancy).

Sam Nuckols and his friend Bill Byles married twin sisters, Wylie Maye and Virginia Fay Bishop, around 1907.  Their father Wylie B. Bishop was county clerk at Cleburne, Texas.

Sam and Maye moved to California in 1919, and the Byles family soon followed.  Samuel Nuckols operated the S. A. Nuckols Plumbing Co. in Bell, California in the 1920s.  When the depression closed the business, Sam and Maye bought a ranch in San Diego County and built a house near Pala, CA.  Their daughter Virginia May Nuckols (1911- ) married Joe D. Gilman at Pala on March 20, 1933.  Her brother Roland Bishop Nuckols (1914-1984) married Patricia Mortimer the following year, also at Pala.  Eugene Overton Nuckols (1909- , named after his grandfather) married Mary Nowag in 1937.  The Nuckols brothers each had 3 daughters.  Joe and Virginia had two daughters and two sons:  Joe D. Gilman, Jr and Samuel Nuckols Gilman.

The Nuckols and Gilman and Byles families lived near each other in suburbs of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 50s.  Around 1960 the Nuckols families moved to Oregon.  Sam and Maye lived for a time near their son Roland in Phoenix, near Medford, and then moved south to Crescent City, CA, just across the Oregon line.  They died in an automobile accident near Brookings, Oregon on February 6, 1965, leaving ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Today, Virginia May (Nuckols) Gilman lives near her son Samuel in Visalia, CA.  Her brother Eugene and his wife Mary Nuckols make their home in El Cajon, CA.
