Captain

Sir, I have the honor to enclose herewith a copy of the sentence of Court Martial in case of Lieut Col. Jed Lake of the 27th Iowa Infty Vols.

It was received just before we set out on the Red River Expedition. At the time we were ordered out on the Meridian Expedition the Lieut. Col. was ordered to remain at Memphis to await orders and was there under arrest with charges prefered against him. He has not been with the Regt. since that time and is now in Memphis, Tenn. I therefore take an early opportunity to forward the order of the Court, that proper action may be taken upon the matter.

I am Captain

Very Respectfully
Your Obt. Servt

James I. Gilbert
Col 27th Iowa Vols Comdg. Brigade
