Capt.

I would very Respectfully request that Lieut. Col. Jed Lake be ordered to remain in Memphis, to await the sentence of a Court Martial held at Little Rock, Ark. where he was tried on very grave charges, the proceedings of which have not yet reached us. I have learned by letter that they have been forwarded by Maj. Genl. F. Steele. I would state as reasons for wishing him to remain that he is continually trying to incite bad feelings in the Regt among the Officers and men and that I am satisfied, that he will continue to disturb the harmony of the Regt. to the detriment of the service.

I am Capt,

Very Respectfully Your Obt. Servt.

James I. Gilbert
