Maj.

Sir, I would state that by virtue of Special Orders No. 172 in Head Quarters Depart Army of the Tenn, Chattanooga, Tenn dated August 1st 1864 Thomas G. Dripps "E" Company 27th Iowa Infty Volts. is honorably discharged the service of the United States. See copy enclosed.

His notice reached him on the 24th inst. at 3 o'clock P.M. He was then a member of this Commission Company by Special Orders No. 81 Dist West Tenn. V, dated July 14, 1864.

This leaves us with but four (4) voting members. It would be necessary to make our record complete to have an order from your Hd Qts relieving Capt Dripps from duty.

I have the honor
To be Major very respectfully
Your obedt Servt.
