Our 4th stop was the Old Woodlawn Cemetery, Sweet Township, Pipestone County, Minnesota, for the grave of Robert H. Scarf. From the name and address of the cemetery, I assumed this would be a small, old, and rural cemetery. However, it is the cemetery for the town of Pipestone and is the largest cemetery that we visited on this trip. The cemetery suffered several thousands of dollars vandalism about 10 days to two weeks before our visit, with many gravestones toppled and several broken. Fortunately, The Scarf gravestones were not damaged. One stone shows Robert's date of birth as Jan 23, 1846, and his date of death as Oct 09, 1906. The date of Oct 13, 1906, is, I believe, his burial date. The back side of the large stone shows his wife, Nellie M., was born Oct 07, 1851, and died on July 27, 1922. Ben K. Sager (6/29/2010)
