James DOBBINS was born 1740-1755 in Ireland. He married Elizabeth STEPHENSON.

  • 4. Elizabeth, born 29 Jul 1781, Abbeville, SC; died 04 Mar 1850, Sugar Creek, Lawrence Co, TN; married George H. HILLHOUSE, 26 Feb, 1807, Marion, Livingston Co, KY. George was born 11 Apr 1777, Clinch River, NC; died 20 Sep 1834, Sugar Creek, Lawrence Co, TN; buried Hillhouse Cemetery, Sugar Creek, Lawrence County, TN; son of James D. HILLHOUSE and Mary DICKEY.

From 1779 to May 1783 James served as Private in the South Carolina Militia and the 1st Regiment Continental Line. According to Col. Anderson's Return, he served 71 days on horseback, 110 days on foot, and 12 days horse in service. On 19 April 1785 he was paid 25 lbs, 11 shillings, 5 pence for this service. The Revolutionary file in SC also shows that he served under Lt. David Smith (in 1781), the 1st REg. Cont. Line, under Col. Chas. Pinckney, and under Capt. Samuel Rosamond. On April 24, 1786 he received pay for militia duty under Col Water's Regiment.

James died 24 July 1817 in Anderson, Pendleton District., South Carolina. His will was recorded 29 Jul 1817, Anderson Co, SC.
