LANDON CENSUS PROJECT

By Dave Skinner

As any experienced genealogist knows, one of the best resources for post-Revolutionary research is the U. S. Census. I have checked all available Census indexes from 1790 through 1850, and listed all LANDON households on a computer spreadsheet, by state, county, township, and microfilm number. Of course, there are probably some that are missing due to misspellings or other errors. I made the decision early on to not list the entries under "LANGDON", since there is a distinctly separate family by that name. I did include other variations such as Landan, Landen, and Landin.

After listing all Landons in the indexes, I started the laborious task of looking up the 1850 Census entries on the microfilms. So far, I have checked the microfilms and listed the household detail information for most states. I did find a few Landons on the microfilms that were missed in the published indexes, due to errors by the compilers.

For those that are identified, the first number is the Brother's Keeper record number, and the second number is the J. O. Landon record number.

This is a work in progress, so not all states or individuals are included. Please e-mail contributions and updates to Rob Joyce, [email protected] for inclusion in the database.
