TRYS TO STIR STRIFE
The apparent tendency of the White Salmonites to grab
everything, practically, to the detriment of the East End, especially in
regard to the county seat, will cost Captain Spencer many a vote. Why should
they be enthusiastic for a county division if they do not improve their attitude
towards these people? -- Bingen Observer.
There has been nothing in the present campaign for county
division by White Salmon to warrant so severe a criticism. The east end and
was not kicking against White Salmon. It has two places aspiring for the
county seat. One town asked White Salmon to give it the county seat, but
it was not in the power of a committeeman to do this, the plan adopted being
to leave this to the people.
It is not fair to jeopardize Mr. Spencer's chances for
election by endeavoring to create a "ruction" between Lyle and White Salmon.
The Lyle Washingtonian is heartily supporting Spencer, refusing to take the
dog-in-the-manger attitude by opposing him if it cannot be given the temporary
county seat.
As for the tendency to "grab everything" it is no more
than might be said of many large place. White Salmon did not name the river;
