START HIGHWAY TO DAM SITE

A crew of 30 to 40 men have begun a highway from the Northwestern Power Plant site to Underwood. At present the work is being done back of the Ogilvie place and the route carries them over the river at the old bridge and down the west side of the White Salmon river to the railroad. It is reported that Skamania County will build the bridge. It has also been asked to bear part of the expense of making the new road, which will be thoroughly built by the Northwestern, for it needs a good road to freight in its material. At present there are from 15 to 20 teams hauling from the station up the Underwood road to the site. A large rock crusher is at the station and it is expected to start up the road shortly. There has been some question about the bridge bearing up under the weight, but the engineers are confident it will hold.
