"The Week's Record"
County Supt. Ryman informs us that he has recently returned
from a very pleasant official trip to western Klickitat. The first visit
was as the school of Mr. Shepard, where he found all attending to work and
the school progressing.
The next school attended was that taught by Prof. Frisbee
at Trout Lake. There are 53 pupils enrolled, and the teacher is necessarily
kept busy. By efforts of the school they have a fine library, probably the
best one in our county. This school has excellent literary features, and
in which all participate. This school now being rather large, the people
of the district had just voted to build on an addition next year and employ
two teachers. On Jan. 27 and 28 Supt. Ryman held an 8th grade examination
at this school with the following in attendance: James Coate and Ray Chubb;
and the Misses Mary Aerni, Dorothy Johnson, and Inez Gregory, Amelia Fletcher,
Effie Byrkett and Rozila Boze. All were deeply interested in the work and
enthusiastic. He next stopped at the school of Mrs. Tedcomb, known as the
Cameron school in Dist. No. 63. A new school-house, in process of erection,
will be used in the spring. At White Salmon he found a successful school
in charge of Mr. Fabrick and Miss Hulda Rankin. Here another 8th grade class
was examined, with fine satisfaction to the superintendent. In this class
were the Misses Georgia and Ethel Johnson, Belle and Anna Wolford, Olga
Lauterback, and Lydia Crowe. The well-known teacher Mr. Neideigh, is at Bingen;
Miss Ross at No. 55; and Miss Reigle at No. 64. All of these schools were
visited; are successful; and the teachers are worthy of great commendation.
Supt. Ryman will probably make a trip out to the eastward as soon as weather
permits.
