RAILROAD UP WHITE SALMON
Surveying On Both Sides River To Dam Site
Rev. Lowden of Underwood was in town last week. He says Porter Bros. of Portland are making the survey for a proposed road up at the White Salmon river, the plan being to go up the west side until the old bridge is reached where a crossing is to be made to the dam site on Little Buck creek. He was asked about selling a right-of-way across some land for which he is executor, and upon inquiry was told that the company was making a survey and finding out costs of rights-of-way, after which they would consider whether or not the cost would warrant building. Porter Bros. owns a large belt of timber west of the dam site, and with a road would be in a position not only to haul out the products but haul in material for the big dam. The company would then be in a good position to extend the road up the valley.
