DESCENDANT PUTS UP BICKLETON ROAD SIGNS
By Neal Meyer, Bickleton correspondent, phone 896-5244
Cal Bickle of Richland, a Kennewick city parks employee,
has put up road signs leading into Bickleton from all four points. The signs
are varnished hardwood with white, routed lettering reading "Bickleton Pop.
90".
Says Bickle, who is the great grandson of Charles N.
Bickle founder of the town, "Since this is the bicentennial year, I wanted
to do my part for the little town. "Bickle has also put up a picture of his
great grandfather in the post office, and will soon erect a sign pointing
to his first homestead.
Bickleton was founded in May 1879. Charles Bickle was
the first postmaster, and for 12 years carried the mail free of charge between
Bickleton and Goldendale. The people of Bickleton wish to express their
appreciation for Cal's very nice gesture.
